I have heard the iridium are better as well, though the nissan tag recommends platinum.

From what I have heard from some of the reputable Z specialists, the OEM NGK platinum's are the best plug for the engine up to 6 or 700 horsepower and then the Iridium plugs produce a better spark at extreme boost levels.Bottom line is if the plugs look like they are burning clean and not detonating or missing at high RPM, and the engine runs smooth, no reason to look elsewhere.

iridium is safe for use with nitrous, platinum is not, both are long life plugs, I run U-Grooves, don't expect much from a spark plug, in general, save your money, buy the standard platinums

I went to advance auto. And i was like , "ill just take the NGK platinums please " and he was like, " are you sure? they have iridiums here cheaper" and i was like" ok ill go with that" I have no problem at all with them. so go with NGK platinums or iridiums. they both spark well and they both last long. iridiums he said are usually more money but just check it out before you buy

all i know is that the platinum spark plugs, the ones made for the 300zx actually penetrate deeper (thats what she said) than most other spark plugs said to work with the Z. the extra length helps put the diode in to the chamber partly and helps alot with equal combustion. stick with the plugs made for your car i say and you should never have a problem.

iridium plugs were invented way after the z was retired. NGK probably uses the same measurements but different metal tips. but hey if your right your right. im just saying how could iridiums be made for it if they were invented, NGK is one of the best in the game. before i installed my jdm engine, i bought the iridiums, and when they were ready to go in, i pulled out the old ones, and they were NGK iridiums lol

the car was designed for platinum plugs, however I've gone through two sets of iridiums in my last two changes and they work just fine. Especially for a stock application, you probably won't know the difference

Denso Iridium! Expensive but the quality is top notch! I have them and they seem to last a bit longer than most.

On my 1990 300ZX Z32 NA all that I could get was DENSO IRIDIUM POWER IK16-5303 pre gaped at .044 and they are doing okay. I think these are Standard too. NGK has now came back out with "Cold" instead of just Standard and Hot. The Nissan Dealership cross referenced the part to the "DENSO IRIDIUM POWER" Spark Plug. So what is the better Spark Plug for the NA Motor?

Also I was told to run a Semi-Synthetic Blend of Motor Oil and Never run a Full-Synthetic Motor Oil or Royal Purple in the Manual Transmission or the Rear end either. With the Plug's and oil is there any credo to this? I was told not to change the Lifters to Roller Rocker Arms too. Any reason why, or are the Lifters just the "Nature of the Beast"?
I'm a New Guy so not really any dumb questions! I'd rather ask than blow up a motor. Thank you Guy's, any information will be greatly appreciated. There There, Chad W

Check the service manual and use whats in the service manual or an EXACT replacement. The VG30DE series engine requires a longer plug for proper combustion. Most auto parts stores do not have them on the shelf.

As something that will be replaced only a couple times in the cars life and costs about $100 going cheap or installing something that doesn't work is a false economy. If your car is very high HP then your builder and/or tuner should be able to tell you exactly what plugs they have built/tuned for/with.

This isn't rocket science, just follow the manual the engineers put together because chances are they are smarter than any of us when it comes to that particular subject.

As for Iridium vs Platinum (this is one of the best to the point explanations I've found): https://www.championautoparts.com/Parts ... rials.html

If the heat range and the physical fit are the same the only difference in iridium and platinum plugs is the length of life. Iridium lasts far longer and when cars began using them you got the first truly 100K life possibility plugs. The material does not erode off the tips as fast as platinum does.

My car was woman Driven and highly maintained by her. Her Husband is my personal Lawyer. The two cars they got were made in 1989 and Bought in early 1990. Neither car has rolled over 75K yet. The car I bought "2+2 5-Speed still smells new. I updated everything under the motor from the Fuel Injector's to three new Belts and a better Clutch Fan. It's currently in a good friend's body shop getting new paint from the Front Valance to the Door Jam's to the Hatchback and Rear Valance. Had the rock guard removed. My "OEM" Wheels are getting Sandblasted then Powder Coated. Calipers painted red! My two Semi problems are.
1: Recirculation Button is worn the black off.
2: My Cruise Control green light comes on, I press SET but nothing. I just can't figure it out! If I have too then I'll go to Nissan and pay $101 an hour plus parts.
