If you do the work yourself you can do it relatively cheap and much less than you would pay for a vette like Perry is planning to do. As far as reliability, that mostly comes down to the build and the tune.
We'd love to help guide you along if you pull the trigger.
It does come down to the tune and of course the year of the machines. In my case my 08 xs can be sold and a 2006 vette with like miles can be purchased very close to straight across. No Music box but comes with the nav and Bose sound system, two roofs, and serious wheels, tires, and brakes. No AWD of course.
But I stand by the statement that it is the cheaper way to go than modding a G to try to get in the same performance area. I also stand by my statement that when in to the same performance area the vette would probably be more reliable since it would be stock and less stressed.
Depending on review the auto is slightly slower by as much as 2/10s to sixty to slightly faster. So basically I believe these numbers are good for either one. Current prices for less than 20k miles appear to be in the mid 30s like the one I test drove. I recommend the 2005 or newer for manual to take advantage of some performance features and the 2006 or newer for auto to get the 6 speed auto.

2006 Chevrolet Corvette
Base/Tested Price $44,490/$56,570
Drivetrain Front engine, RWD,
Engine 6.0L/400-hp/ 400 lb-ft OHV V-8

Length x width x height 174.6 x 72.6 x 49.0 in

So even if stepping back a couple of years to a 2006 coupe, how much of an investment in cash would you have to put out to get this level of performance. In my case if I do the trade I need to probably consider getting an older Jeep or other AWD when I do need it. I would miss the Music Box, not a whole lot of perceived benefits one way or the other as far as stock navs.
Now for me the real issue for these differences is I may be better off going with the stock radio and doing sound upgrades, possibly including a car puter on the vette to gain back what I would have lost. The AWD issue is still there but for performance, well I think the vette has that covered. It is a little crude in some areas, a little bit noisy, but man does it go and handle well in its stock form.
Again, the modded G Coupe would have a certain unique factor that would be hard to over come. If I was going to do this I would start possible with the 09 Coupe AWD and go from there avoiding whatever issues that could play into voiding the warranty. That is if one really cares about this.
