Infiniti Batteries

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My 2008 EX35 is not a daily driver. It usually gets taken out a couple of times a week but sometimes it can sit in the garage for two weeks. Today I went down to start it up and nothing. The Start button wouldn't even change status. I hadn't started it in about two weeks, maybe a little more. The battery is a little less than a year old, it's a dealer replacement for the original which went bad after about three years. I have most of the battery-draining bells and whistles turned off, like the seat and steering wheel adjusting when you enter/leave the car. Previously I noticed when I let it sit for a week or so the battery labored a bit but it did start.

I tried putting the key fob in the "dead key fob battery slot" but no luck. The key fob battery is only two years old and should be good. I tried jumping it with a neighbor's compact but no-go, I think her battery was too small for the task. Tonight I've got it on a charger and will try it in the morning but I don't think this should be necessary just for having it sit for two weeks.

Is this normal for this car? Are Infiniti batteries just crap? Could something be unnecessarily draining the battery? Any feedback on this issue would be appreciated. Any known issues on this? I'd hate to think I couldn't leave the car idle for a couple of weeks and have the battery drain completely. I love this car but I hate the electrical system. If the car won't start, it's just an expensive piece of inert metal.

first I have heard of it. The battery would be still under wty so I would have them put in another OEM battery.

If the car is still under wty, make them come bring it to you or come jump you and then head to the dealer and replace it free.

I would say the batteries are "not the best" to put it lightly.

At a little over 2 years I started having problems with mine.
Our cars are very "heavy" in the electronics dept. So the choice was to warranty it and hope for the best going forward or to fix-it-and-forget-it.

Boyfriend gave me an early "Christmas Gift" of a yellow top Optima spiral gel cell battery.

Needless to say I'm not expecting any more problems in this area for some time to come. :mike

P.S. If anyone decides to go with the Optima battery note that the plastic box-like shipping cover for the battery terminals doubles as a stand/platform for the battery. Raising it up and making it easier to bolt down. At least that is what my boyfriend stated when doing the install... just FYI. ;)

Same issues with both my G's. I simply replaced them with a Duralast battery instead of a replacement Infiniti battery.

Generally OEM batteries are not the greatest.

I've had a lot of luck with COSTCO Batteries. They are priced right and perform well in the cold.

Thank you all for the replies. That was pretty much what I was hoping to hear. I can deal with a crap battery better than some unknown electrical problem draining the system.

I hooked it up to a small battery charger for 24 hours and it's good to go now. I think as long as I have this battery, I'll just plug it into the charger overnight once a week. Next battery will be as good as I can find.

Thanks again.
