I had that exact same pair of parachute pants. Only they were black and not red. And I wore them with a red headband and a black sleeveless T-shirt (would that be an I-shirt?) that had the word "Breakin'!" across it. But that was in 1983/84, not 1985.

If you wore those pants in 1985, you deserve to be laffed at. By 1985, you should have been french-rolling your jeans and wearing Chuck Taylors with a puffy red down vest.

Formal attire would have been a pastel 2-button suit, a colored tee, and a pair of boat shoes with no socks. As per:
