So far I've driven with a busted stock shifter, a Megan Racing short shifter, and a rebuilt stock shifter.
I hated the short shifter cause it rattled so much and a super short throw isn't my thing.
And despite the rebuilt stock one feeling nice, I wished it felt a bit more solid.

The reason why the stock shifter feels slightly mushy, even though you've rebuilt it like brand new, is that the top fat part and the bottom pivoting part are joined together by rubber.

Attain and Uras make stock solid shifters like these:

So I decided to make a shifter like it, except not as expensive. :)

List of stuff you'll need:
• Rebuilt stock shifter
• B13 Sentra shifter
• Someone to weld
• And someone with a lathe (Optional).

First, you'll obviously need to rebuild the stock shifter.
Thankfully MrGreenEyes and ILoveMyRHS13 has us sorted out. :)

*TIP* Greeneyes said to use 2 wave washers, but I ended up using a total of 3 "wave" washers (2 below the cup, 1 above) so the shifter assembly was even more solid.

S13 shifter and B13 shifter.

I taped where I was gonna cut.
I decided to cut the B13 shifter 10mm shorter than the S13, you can cut it whatever length you want to.
That fat part of the S13 shifter is for the rubber boot to fit over, it's there to stop noise and air from blowing in.
However, the B13 shifter does not have it. :(

So, you have a few options.
• Do nothing about it.
• You can wrap your nice shifter with miles of duct tape.
• You can slip on a bunch of increasingly larger hoses on the shifter until you reach the proper width, like some kind of Russian doll.
• Or you can get a piece of steel machined on a lathe, which is what I did.

Cut shifters + the machined piece.

Make sure the round plastic piece is in the right position and not upside down.

Painted!

You should probably paint it after you've rebuilt it and put the small rubber boot on, that way you can avoid scratching your new paint.
If the round ring to hold your rubber boot is unpainted and rusted you should wire wheel and paint it like I did.

Installing.

Nissan used a paper gasket, but I just used silicone to seal it.

The rubber boot which seals with the machined part...

I used a piece of hose to keep my boot from falling down, people with longer shift knobs won't need this.

Complete!

The review..
It feels as solid as a short shifter now, but obviously the throw is same as stock. (I've hated short gear throws anyways.)
You can feel a more satisfying and encouraging engagement of gears as you shift, and best of all there is no rattle like a short shifter. :)

I'm really glad I did this mod. My car's steering feels nice and sharp, but having a mushy shifter kinda killed the driving experience.
Now everything I mess with as I drive feels nice and crisp.
Super happy!

Wow this is badass. I was actually planning on ordering a nismo solid shifter, but I'm pretty sure that's what you just built minus the wait and cost. Definitely giving this a try when I get my motor running. Btw cool korean newspaper lol.

Haha, thanks.
The Nismo solid shifter isn't even solid, they just used a harder rubber and shortened it a bit.

We keep old newspapers for stuff like this. :P
