Ill be going in as an "aerospace maintenence apprentice". Im starting to get kinda jittery, leaving my whole world behind (including beloved latenights on NICO ). Some things ill miss the most; my girlfriend Navee of 2 and a half years, the s13 (going into storage), family, friends, ... all of it. Just wanted to say thanks, to all of you ... espescially if youve helped me with my car during my 3 year stay here (never made it to 1,000 posts in 3 years ) . Ill be back on the forum, eventually, but its definitely going to be a while.

So, while im gone... be nice to the newbs... kenrick try not to be an attention whore Chrislis keep being a pimp, and Greg..... try not to make your car 1000,000 times better than mine (even though it already is) - Ill do my best to keep up while im away.

hey man, I was in the air force (i was a reservist) ive got a few tips for basic if you care:

First off, Basic was alot easier than everyone claims. go into it with a good attitude and you will have fun. i had a blast and made some good friends. I laughed so hard at stupid things people would do every day that my abs were sore and it made crunches and leg lifts hell. just remember to be submissive to the TI and memorize this phrase: "sir, trainee -insert last name here- reports as ordered" (you will be surprised at how many people say it wrong! and they keep saying it wrong and getting yelled at for like 2 weeks! the dumb ones even longer!) they make you say that befrore every conversation with a TI or someone already out of basic.

if you have half a brain you are already smarter than everyone but a select few, and even then, they are really stupid. use that as a confidence booster. scout out the smart guys in your flight and make friends. you have a great time making fun of the stupid people.

when a chance for leadership comes up, take it. all you have to do is lead people in marching, and you get respect from the TI, just dont volunteer if you cant march well or dont have any confidence.

the only thing that kept me from getting honor grad was i needed a 90 or better on some stupid test. I had all the physical tests passed with flying colors, and everything else was in line, i just didnt study this useless packet they gave us. (and i still made an 88 on common sense) so if you go for that, make sure you study and are in good health when you get to San Antonio.

other than that, just relax and kinda take an outside "big picture" view of the whole thing. they try to play mind games with you, but if you just think about it, they never get to you.

Congrats! My older brother tranined at Lackland AFB (isn't that where AF recruit training is?). I will say from what I've seen of AF personnel, they treat their people quite nice. By comparison (to the USMC, that is), it's practically civillian life + a uniform. The only downside is that promotions can sometimes be slow due to the AF's high retention rate (the life is great, so why get out?). You picked a darn fine career field that will greatly benefit you whenever you decide to leave the service. So, goodluck, Godspeed, and thank you for serving our country. And I really mean thank you, as the men and women of our armed services don't hear that nearly enough.

Let's see: 6 weeks (AF) versus 13 weeks (USMC). Weekend leave, including off base, after 2-4 weeks in training (AF) versus one day of on base leave (in uniform) the day before graduation(USMC). I won't mention the Crucible, as that was instituted after I had already graduated boot. There are a few other things, but I think that's enough of a comparison.

Thank you for the heads up on BMT, i've been trying to research it and hear as many stories as possible so nothing is a surprise. Ive been running 2 miles every day, i can pretty much pass all the graduating standards pretty easily. I used to be a TI for civil air patrol too so I kinda know what they expect from me/how to follow an SOP.

Basicly I joined because ive loved avaition and the air force since I was little, and my eyes/lack of a degree are stopping me from being a pilot. I also realized that a lot of kids in my generation don't feel as much pride or appreciation for our country, and not many are willing to make a difference in the war.... so I signed up

Anyways im looking forward to running into some NICO brothers in arms
