I just purchased a 2002 Infiniti I35. Basically... It's a Nissan A33 Body (also used on the Altima, Maxima, I30, Cefiro and probably more). With a Nissan VQ35DE Engine (also in the Altima, Maxima, G35 and new M)... All of which have Turbo Kits avaialbe... why the hell can't I find a turbo kit for my car? or is there something about my car that would make it unsuitable for a turbo setup? Here are some specs that will help fill in details if needed.

Maxima, I30, and I35 are the same car, and identical mechanically, so any Maxima turbo will work with your I. Get a 2002 or 2003 Maxima turbo and you'll be good. The only thing I'm not sure about there is hood clearance, but I don't see that becoming an issue.

Are you sure the Altima uses the A33 chassis? I know the A34 Maxima is Altima-derived. I was under the impression that the 97-01 Altima was designated U32. (Not arguing, just curious.)

Also, welcome!

I'm pretty confident that the Altima is not on the A33 chassis. It has that oh-so-nice independent rear suspension.

As for ready-made turbo kits...this car is unfortunately not as well served by the aftermarket like most Hondas.

There are turbo kits out there for the VQ30 engined Maximas (A33/A32) but none in current widespread distribution for the A33 chassis for vehicles with VQ35 motors.

There is, however, a company called SSR that has test-fit a turbo setup (initial plan was to mass produce) on a VQ35 Maxima, but I believe it was a 6-speed. I think that kit was derived from a similar kit they developed for newer VQ35 equipped Altimas.

I'm sure some work on altimas.net, maxima.org, and google will yield some info with those bits of information. Simply put, there's no easy bolt-on solution as of yet, or in the near future for the A33 VQ35 vehicles.

Yes, they started a conversion of the Altima kit on a VQ35 Maxima. This was appx Jan 2k5. It is now Feb 2k6 and the owner is still having problems with the kit and pulling codes. The "one off" (I would not call it a kit at this point) is still misfiring and popping codes. It is designed around a 6sp at this point, so it won't work on a I35.

Ahh, thanks for the update. Was wondering why more hadn't developed on it.

I'm already done with my search... after a lot of research and a little book learnin'... I came to realize that there's no way I'm gonna be able to get a turbo into this thing for a reasonable (my definition of reasonable, don't want any Turbo lover spamming me) price. I'd have to get that 4 speed auto tranny replaced, I'd run through that thing in minutes (the way I'd be driving it). Oh well, it was a nice thought (near luxury car smoking almost anything on the road), but just a thought nontheless. Honestly, this thing has pleanty of power, more than I need in LA really...

You can always go with NA mods and nitrous. 75-shot is nice from what I hear...
