And it's in NICE shape. Needs some help mechanically, but that's no big deal. Aesthetically, it's really nice. Paint is oxidizing some, but nothing a good wetsand/buff won't fix. The interior looks brand new.

If anyone in DC is potentially interested in this car, hit me up at the gmail address in my profile. Move FAST though.

There were only 500 factory 5spd MX73's ever imported, this one is a 1985 with 133k on it. Oklahoma car until very recently, so no rust.

I'm not sure why people go nuts over these cars. Most of the remaining examples are old and near death. There's lots of nicer RWD sedans from that era that don't cost $2500. Must be 240sx syndrome -- bandwagon turns into an avalanche.

^^^ I'm with Jesda, I can't seem to figure out what the appeal is for these cars.

Eh, it's a 4dr RWD Japanese sedan with lots of engine swap possibilities. There really aren't LOTS of other cars that fit that description.

Most people want to stay away from German cars due to the percieved (whether true or not) cost of parts and maintenance.

I've seen 5spd Cressidas sell for as much as $4,000, and that's what I'd list this at if it were mechanically perfect (it isn't). I'm not disclosing what I paid, but some of you know what kind of deals I get, and this is certainly in line with my past performances, lol.

Besides, they look hella cool when all boso'd up:

Here are some images of modified MX73s:

Here's a JDM one, as far as I know the MX73 chassis was badged as a "Chaser" in Japan:

They're cool if you're into boso and you want a RWD car that not many other people have for not much money. They don't really cost much more than an S13, if any. A mint 5spd S13, truly mint, is about $3500, and the MX73 is just a little more because it's so unbelievably rare to find as factory 5spd.

So, basically, its an affordable way to get a RWD sedan to build up.

I like boxy 80s cars, especially 929s and Maximas, but those are practically free, thus their appeal as hobby and project cars. $4,000 is... insanity. There's something out there for everyone I guess, and if there's more everyones than somethings, the price will rise.

My first car would have been a Cressida if my parents didn't get such a strong offer from the Nissan dealer in 1988 for a Sentra demo model. Blast!

Yeah, exactly. The normal MO is:

-1jz or 7MGTE swap-absolute slammage on either hood-rat cut springs or actual coils-Drift the crap out of it.

Personally, I prefer the stock 5MGE, naturally aspirated. It sounds beautiful with a nice exhaust. I have a huge soft spot for 1980's Toyota products, it was their glory days, IMO. 5MGE, 22RE, 4AGE, 3TC, all their bulletproof masterpieces.

I like both first-gen 929's and old Max's. Actually, I think that the first-gen Max (aka Datsun 810), is a much cooler potential build platform than a 5spd Cressida, but they are SUPER uncommon. It's basically a 280Z sedan though, which is pretty hella cool.

The reason the 5spd Cressidas are so expensive is due to their near-impossible rarity. I've only ever seen 4-5 listings for them, and this is the first car I'd ever seen in person. Only 500 were imported, and more than half of those have since assuredly been scrapped, crashed, or rusted into dust.

heck, because of its condition and rarity, it might actually be worth registering as a classic when it becomes eligable next year.

I think it's a neat find... my only grind with the cars of that era is the powered seatbelts. I don't trust them to stay working.

If you wanted a 4door drifter, then what about an Infiniti j30 or a Q45? The Cresida is so ugly

^ You're an idiot Nala.

The j30 and q45 weren't even close to being made in 85. Also, they never came with a manual tranny, and aren't really comparable as far as build platforms.

maybe he wanted something that has an aftermarket so he can actually modify it?

and just because youve never seen a cool 83 doesnt mean they dont exist.

Wow, only 500 in the US? I guess low demand like that (when new) is to be expected of a full size luxury sedan. The Lexus ES300 had a manual option, and I've seen only one in my entire life.

I like the distinctly 80s body and interior.

Well, I just listed the Miata for sale on a local board.

I'll probably list this also. I'll just sell whichever goes first and then keep the other, figuring that the man upstairs is trying to tell me which car to keep, lol.

I had a early 80's Datsun 810 in high school. I was drifting it before drifting was even a word.

If I could find one in that condition right now I would pay a premium for it. It was by far the most fun automatic car I have ever had. When that thing down shifted it was like being rear ended by a freight liner.

It had a cool chick as the warning voice.

"Door is Ajar, Door is Ajar, Door is Ajar"

"Trunk is open, Trunk is Open"

I hate myself for selling that for an 86 Camry. If I only knew then what I know now.

Like this but I had it painted a tan with metal flake in it

I found one around here recently for cheap but the frame rails were rotted thru.

My dream would be one with an L28ET 5 speed tan interior

I could've had a 84 or 85 but the guys were asking my car for trade plus cash when my car was somewhat in the same pricing range.
