I recently bought a maxima maf online from this dealer. I noticed it is quite different in physical shape the the oem sensor, longer, and a different plastic profile. It fits into the factory intake tube and the bolt holes line up just fine though.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... K:MEWAX:IT

It also has a 5th male pin on the top of it, where as the oem only has 4, there is a 5th spot on the OEM connector that plugs into the MAF, but the extra pin hole looks to be factory plugged. Is this a concern??

After installing it my crappy idle has gone away (my old sensor had 125k on it) but the car is throwing a P0100 and going into limp mode after driving for a while. Ive had it in for a week now hoping the code would cure itself, and I clear it with my scanner everytime it comes on because my car goes into limp mode and is almost undriveable.

Can anyone give me some insight on what the problem is?? Ive read nothing but success stories using the Maxima maf. But some people are saying there sensor was EXACTLY the same as OEM, no physical difference, and no extra pin... but I dont think anyone has actually checked yet and they may just be going off of memory

Yes, it's been said many many times over. Sorry but after reading a few replies from Alfredo I'm annoyed.

The car might just need to adjust to the new MAF. When I installed mine it threw some codes, couple days later the check engine light turned off.

I didnt mean, does it FUNCTION exactly the same, as in the voltages,

I was more curious if anyone noticed the SIZE and SHAPE difference, I was just under the impression they were EXACTLY the same, in all ways.

Just would like to make sure before I install it

The one I got was identical to the OEM one, yours should have been as well. Where did you order it from?

I bought this one, fits snug in the tube and the holes line up, and is the correct part number 22680-2Y001

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... K:MEWAX:IT

But you say there actually identical? Size shape , number of pins everything??

I installed it today and the car runs, but not smooth, it had a fluctuating idle (700-900 rpm bouncing) and throws a P0100 MAF code after 10 min of driving or right after you try and accelerate hard, and there wasnt near the torque or acceleration that there was before

It was definetely different than oem in the ways I mentionned though, longer, different plastic profile, 5 male pins ontop instead of the OEM 4.

The MAF connector on my car looks like it was made for 5 plug/wires, but the one is sealed (looks like from factory) and there just isnt a 5th pin on my oem maf sensor

Whats going on here

My 2001.5 stock MAF also has a fifth pin sealed, if that helps.

I'll check mine when I get back to the mainland(in Hawaii). You bought yours from Victory Nissan who delivered a perfect one to me. Is it possible that your "OEM" setup was previously modified? Just to clarify, how many pins are on the connector going to your wire harness, how many on your old MAF and how many on the new one? It sounds like the fittings for the connectors are the same.

Yes, function as of right now is on the back burner. The size, and difference between the MAF is what is concerrning me.

Did you notice, or check, for a difference?

I got this answer from a nissan dealer today.
"Physically, they are different as it is not the same part number. However,we have found that it will work on a Pathfinder or QX4.We haven't had any problems with the ones we have done here in the shop.Keep in mind the exact nissan replacement part is about 500.00
If you do have any problems or can't make it work it can always be returned for a refund.Thanks.

Mark

Did any of you guys actually look at the sensor and compare before installing it??

I never looked at mine unfortunately. Nice that the dealer accepts refunds if necessary, mine won't take anything back!

Why not go to a wrecker and see if a wrecked 01 Pathy or Q has a MAF in it. Take it home and install it. If the problem goes away then you know the sensor you have is wrong.

because everyone said this sensor would be a direct replacement and I just spent $100 on it??

Or because there isnt a car newer than 2000 in any yard near me...

appreciate your help, but there are no r50's in any yards near me. And I have this new sensor.

Im looking for someone with experience with the maxima sensor, maybe even so meone who can compare the one they purchased. Empty said he bought the exact sensor I did from the same seller and his dropped in just fine, but he also I believe said it was IDENTICAL to oem

What bit do you use to get the sensor out of the tube? I still have my original MAF I could compare my Maxima MAF to.

Its a T20 torx bit

Most "all in one" socket sets include a sleeve of torx bits

It did throw some MAF codes but they went away in a week or so.

What do you mean by limp mode?

The car goes into a protect mode, wont let you rev past 2500rpm, seems to run real rich and sluggish for the driving you try. I am currectly driving around with the OBD scanner in my glovebox so when the check engine light comes on I clear it at the next stop. As it makes daily driving almost impossible

I just didnt expect these problems with a "drop in" replacement

I tightenned the MAF female pins, but I dont think so. When I put my factory maf in the car drives fine and throws no codes, but it idles lumpy with the oem one and was quite old as far as I know, so I wanted this new one
