With the summer heat and the summer sun, I bet most of you have the shades that go in the windsheild. For those of us that have sunroofs, nothing is keeping the sun from entering it and heating things up. That is unless your lucky enough to have the factory unit. I don't so I made my own.

Remove sunroof:

Remove the hinges and brackets:

Fab work starts:

The finished product:

This was my 1st crack at interior fabrication. Hope yall like it.

come live down in GA, and you'll see that you need all the help you can get in the summer months. I'm going to have to do this soon, it's already getting in the upper 80's down here. Props on the right up!

I've thought about a near black tint too... I mean, you never use a sunroof to look out of - just to keep cool. So who cares if you have some serious tint on it?

But that is an awesome idea and write-up!

I've been thinking of tinting it but if it weren't for that black half *** painted on tint crap I would have tinted it. I'm thinking I would have some serious bubbling shortly after tinting. Plust, the sunroof already had the mounts. I just had to make something to mount to them.

nice dude. looks really clean. and fairly easy to accomplish. i just tinted mine though. did close to 10 layers of niteshade. will definately be interesting to see how it holds up to summer heat. i may be going your route instead. nice DIY by the way.

you gotta tint the OUTSIDE of the sunroof. much like, taillights, and then clearcoat it. theres no way you could tint over that black mesh crap on the inside..

Can I bother you for a picture of the factory unit. I'm curious as to the shape of it.

See, you're not the only one now.

I have some material leftover. I might make a glovebox door cover outta it. Then maybe I'll do the door accents, arm rest cover, shift boot, and the ashtray cover. All in this camo material.

If you're gonna tint the sun roof, you've gotta do the bake method. I went to a couple of tint shops and they said not many places do the bake method anymore, cuz it's pretty pricey. Most cars that come with factory tint have gone through the baking process.

My question is...How does the cover fair when you tilt it up and are driving on the highway?

Not bad acually. It doesn't let as much air in but it doesn't make any noise at all either. I can litterally feel the difference while driving in the sun with the shade on. I usually have the A/C on full blast and still was a little warm. But, without the sun beating in on me from above, I stay cool and don't need the A/C on full blast.

I just completed mine. I like it! Don't mind the blurry spots in the center of the pics...
