It's behind the glove box. You open the glove box and disconnect the straps. You'll see a black plastic cover use a bladed screwdriver to remove from the left side. There's another white cover, behind it is where the filter is.

Have to checked the seat filters? Very easy move seat up all the way reach from behind the seat and feel for a square plastic filter( about 4" square) and pull down.

Is there another less expensive source for these filters? Say standard auto parts store? Does Fram or other company supply these for cabin and seats?

Above is a link for the cabin filter but I have not yet seen a filter for the seat anywhere online.

I just had the dealer replace the cabin filter in my 2006 M35. He charged me $49.95 for the filter and $70.00 to put it in.

I bought a cabin filter on EBAY and it came with detailed instructions and color photographs of the install - pretty sweet and if I remember the price was in the teens?? check ebay but be careful too - watch our for shady auctions.

LOL royal pain in the a$$ with an 06. I did mine recently and the service manuals posted here did not help much other than what comes off. The tool of choice would be a philips screw driver with a medium tipped very long (6 to 7 inches) head and MAGNETIZED. There are four screws holding the glovebox hinges in place that are all hard to get at. I managed to undo 3 and left the last one at the bottom right in. It was just enough to swing it out of the way to access the filter panel. The rest is easy. Putting it back together requires the magnetized part of the screw driver!

Good Luck!

How do you change the cabin filter on the 08? Here is what the service manual says:

Removal and Installation of Glove Box Assembly NIS0025GREMOVAL When removing glove box assembly, take steps in the illustrationshown by the number below.1. Remove glove box. Remove damper pin to left side.2. Remove instrument passenger lower cover. Disconnect harness connector.3. Remove instrument side finisher. Insert a remover into lower space.4. Remove glove box cover wiht power tool

How nice and cryptic, "Insert a remover into lower space." and "Remove glove box cover wiht (sic) power tool."

How do you really do this, or is it the same as the 06 above.

zer...ilterAn article with pictures for the 06+ M, the 03-04 is very similar but I can add pictures of that if there is any interest. Hey Z is there any place for that and maybe another article or two into one sticky. Since access to that section is not available. One of the things I like about this forum is the lack of Stickies cluttering up the top of the page. Maybe consolidating the three locked threads into one owners info thread and adding a DIY tech sticky. That might help some of the members keep their Ms happy.

Just changed the in-cabin filter on my 06 M35X. It wasn't difficult at all. Dealer wanted $98 all in to replace - I bought it online at familycar.com for $32 delivered. Easy to do - simply pull up on the glove box door when open on the left just like in Steve the Tech's photos. There are three latches that act as pivot points No need to take off return cable on right side - simply tilt door to left and remove left side pin first, then right and let hang down by cable. Inner white door a little tricky to get back on - just make sure tabs on inside of door are under the new filter to raise it off the fan. Will need to push fairly hard to the left to get door to seat correctly and lock right side. Getting the glove box back on is a cinch - simply manipulate to get right and then left pivot pins in place. There is a lip along the bottom of the front of the glove box and it fits on top (or inside of) the bottom of the opening. Once there, simply apply pressure to snap three latches back into place. It literally took me maybe ten minutes.

 Steve the tech's instructions were spot on; Only problem I had was putting lower dash cover back on, but once I secured left rear section of panel the tabs held and ....less than 10 minutes ... FINISHED !! :inoutgay:

This is wonderful. Do you think he can index them as to the actual title of the section? I have to open file after file to find what I am looking for. Or am I doing something wrong.

A charcoal cabin filter might make it a bit better, the standard cabin filter surely won't. You might be able to find some other posts on this forum about how to resolve it. I haven't done the things suggested, but those who have say the work. One of them might be called frigifresh or frigiclean, something like that, I just don't remember.
