so I kinda borrowed the title form Rob Zombie, anyhow my car is about to get a complete rebuild soI figured I'd sharestarting at the beginning, I picked up the car in St Louis back in 2003 (I paid $1000 for it in it's non running condition, stuck carbs and clogged rusted fuel tank were the major issues)I ran it in the GRM $2003 challange 1 month after draging it homeI returned that car to the challange a few more times finnishing 10th overall in $2005, the car continues to evolve to get to where it is todaya quick list of mods:L28ET T3O4E 57 trimMegasquirt N Spark http://www.diyautotune.com/cat....htmlMSD Blaster 2 CoilNissan Motorsport plug wires455 cc DSM injectorsPallnet O ring fuel rail http://www.freewebs.com/pallnet/Aeromotive RR FPRTreadstone vertical flow intercoolerhttp://www.treadstoneperforman...oolerTial BOVMetal HGARP headstudsNissan Motorsports Euro Damper17x11 front and 17x12 rear CCW wheels http://www.ccwheel.com/files/w...assicsectioned 280Z strut housings zerothread?id=237090GC Coil overs 440 lb/in front, 350 lb/in rearhttp://www.ground-control-stor...CA=27Tokiko Illumina inserts intended for an MR2, BZ3099 front and BZ3015 rearMSA swap bars front and rearTechno Toy Tuning camber plateshttp://technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=648 Techno Toy Tuning TC rodshttp://technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=668Nissan Motorsport Quicksteer knucklesJSK Willwood adapters http://www.jskinnovations.com/datsun.htmWillwood superlite 4 pistons front and rear12.18 vented rotors front and rearSumped stock fuel tankMSD fuel pumpZ specialties1 wire alternator http://www.datsunstore.com/pro...28564odyssey 680 13 lb battery located behind the passanger seatCorbeau GTS2 seatsPeak 5 point harnessesGrant 14" Steering wheeland adapter280ZX Trubo T5 transcustom driveshaft form Republic DieselCompetition Clutches Stage 4 clutchhttp://www.competitionclutch.c...=3272Fidanza Flywheel http://www.ultrarev.com88 Z31 Turbo 3.7:1 CLSDZ31 Turbo CV chafts (flipped the tuip)Modern Motorsports biltit cv shaft adapter companion flanges http://www.modern-motorsports....id=46B&M short throw shifterRon Tyler Diff Mountscirocco style dual electric fan

so I rebuilt my engine nd decided to tackle some rust repair while the engien was out, the swap bar mounts were in really bad shapeI rebuilt them using stiffer bracing and moved the moutning nuts further apart to accomodate my larger bar wthout the need of adapter plates

unfortunatley the more rust I fixed the more I found, and after some soul searching i decided it was time to take the chassis bare and rebuild it for the ground up, I'll be updating this thread as I go so keep an eye on it, step 1 is to stript he chassis bare and put it on a rotisserie, I'll update with pic's once thats done, then it's off to the blaster

keep in mind this project has been 6 years in the making.....so far...... and that all of the labor was done my me, myself and I, everything thats wrong is my fault

ans some of the mods were eolutionary, the brakes for instance, I started by swapping to 77-78 readrdrums fomr a parts car taht I bought for $100 and sold more parts than that so I came out money ahead, then swapped to zx read disks using ebay bracksts and parts car parts again, and sold off more than the cost of the car again and later traded them off for a set of race tires, I then found a used set of outlaw vented front disks, sold them for a bit mroe than I paid, then I finally spent the bux on the willwoods, but I bought the hats and btackets months before buying the rest fo the parts so i wasn't out all the money at once and the JSK version is about $100 cheaper thant he AZC version, so I'm finally to the point of building what I want but most of the heavy expense has already been spent

I will however be paying to have the car blasted, but I'll be doing my own paint and bodywork (which is scary because I'm not very goot at it)

I guess if I had all the money you spent on cars I would spend it on cars too.

Wow. That should be a sweet drive. Are you happy with the way it handles? Of all the mods you did, what was the best value?

Gord

ps. more pictures please

the car handles great, I started with 440lb springs all around, and straight line traction was simply non existant, the reduced rear rate really helped

best value overall, was buying a wrecked 280ZX Turbo for $450, that one swap netted nearly a 100 whp gain, and I sold parts off that zero's otu the cost of the donor

You're definitely a inspiration man for my s30. I'm looking to pick up a L28ET and run a crazy setup like yours. I know whose brain to pick with all the questions I'll have.

if you have spacers under your catriges you can section them, if not then sectioning them would make your inserts too long

I updated the list and added the part numbers, I got mine fomr CG when I ordered the coil overs, they will add the correct gland nut at no extra cost, the ones that come with those inserts will not fit the S30 strut housings

Thanks for the link for the strut sectioning--- I will be needing that very soon....I just have to work on the courage to chop that piece up. I didnt realize what it actually meant--- I thought it was something on the actual coilover, not on the stock piece that houses the strut.

Dave, awesome info.

I don't think people realize just how much you know about the S30.

I'm compiling a list of questions about mine, in fact as I get further into the restoration / modification.

measure twice, cut once!just take your time and make sure your cuts and welds are in the right place, and hey, you can always cut and weld more until it's right most peoplemake their cut at or near the perch, I make mine higher so if my alignment is off or the weld too deep I can get to it with a die grinder

I didn't have to address mine but a bud has a set someone else welded and they are a little crooked and the strut is absolutely jammed in

and thanks for the kind wrods greg, most fo the things I've learned about these cars left a scar

Your car looks fun. I like it.

I was debating on picking up an L28ET block and head to start building intake and exhaust manifolds for that engine, but didn't know what kind of interest it would get...

lonewilf sells fabbed intakes for $700, nice piece but I think they priced themselves out of the market for most people, turbo tubular headrs are a very sought after item for the L6, it's unusual to see them for under at all and then they are $800 or better, if you can undercut the market rices then I'm sure they'd sell, the problem is us S30 guys are spoiled with cheap parts so we're cheap

Yeah, that is the problem. Building intakes/exhaust manifolds for a certain crowd can be difficult. I sell the stuff I do for Z31's and some people think it is priced really high, but then others tell me that if I were smart, I would raise my prices. It seems as though I found a good middle ground for that crowd though.

As for the S30 and 130's I could see it being difficult to compete since they have been around for a while and prices are stupid low on parts. I don't think I would be building regular tubular headers though, cause those are easy to get cheap. I would be building like log style turbo relocation manifolds and stainless tubular manifolds to relocate the turbo. It's a lot easier for the inline 6 rather than the v6 for obvious reasons.

Either way, just an idea I was throwing around. Got any suggestions as to where to gauge interest? I would post here and on Hybrid Z, but other than that, I don't know many s30/130 sites.

Just looked at the Lone Wolf intakes. That is a really good deal for a manifold and a fuel rail! Does anyone know if that $700 price comes with the powder coating they show? Also does anyone have any pictures of the inside of the plenum? Do they do velocity stacks of any kind?

I was referring to the "cheap" part... it's odd, in quotes, stuff you bold doesn't show up. Figured you would know us Z31 guys are cheap bastards.
