What are the normal things to change to increase an auto trans's ability to handle power?

It kinda depends on how much power you'll be adding.
Lots of times people change out springs and/or valves so that shifts happen quicker and harder, resulting in less clutch slippage. Also depending on who makes the transmission, you might want to swap out some of the solenoids. A lot of times the transmission will run hotter (even if/after you install a transmission cooler), and some solenoids contain permanent magnets. If they do, they will gradually lose their magnet force, which will burn up your clutches, and destroy your transmission.

Higher line pressures help, also some trannys can have a extra friction and steel put in the clutch packs to handle more load.

a good example is the auto trans on my nissan safari / patrol 4x4. It has an auto similar to that of the q45 but with less clutch packs... but the guts of the q45's auto swap straight over to make a stronger box :-D

so what I want to know is... Who here knows how level 10 does it?

There must be someone here who understands what holes are made bigger, which springs are shimmed... etc etc etc.

There is much info on this for the toyota guys.. but not for us it seems.

Call 'em.

I wouldn't harbor any delusions about being able to replicate what they do, though: http://www.levelten.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=46
