Check out the instructions in the factory service manual. Everything I hear is that it's best to remove the transmission with the engine, all from the bottom. www.infinitiservicemanual.com

Heath is correct. At least from my experience. Remove the engine with the transmission. Can be done without a lift but I would not suggest it. Its tedious and a hundred times easier with a second person. If its your first time I suggest placing nuts, bolts, clips, etc in separate and labeled baggies. Makes it all the easier in the end

There is a partial thread by Tangalora, the gold standard of posting. probably in General Chat. I don't think she finished it before she had health problems. Everyone on this board was in love with her.

For me I removed from the top since I had a lift, well actually a forklift, with lift straps wrapped around the exhaust manifolds. Much better than from the intake since that trans weights at least 150-200lbs. Thought about doing it from the bottom but its a lot more to disconnect.

For a job like this its an absolute must to have two people, the reason is for spotting so you don't have to get up and down so much, and the most important reason is safety. The hardest part of the job is getting the alternator disconnected because they wrapped the harness with a zip tie so it cant move which means the alternator cant move. Other than that its a lot easier than you would think. I found that wrapping straps below all the exhaust ports still allowed tilting of the engine.

I've so heard many people remove it from the top, just need to lift the car up high enough so the tail shaft of the trans clears the ground.

Going out the top is actually VERY easy compared to going down. Getting it out is the EZ part. Just disconnect every plug and all vac lines as well as coolant lines from back of motor. Also there are 4 plugs from the trans by the shifter that you need to disconnect along with the shifter itself. Obviously exhaust has to come out.

Putting it back in mate the trans to the motor and slide it in from the top. I made the mistake of trying to put trans in after and omg is it the biggest b**** ever.
