The hood latch can be adjusted down, there's three 12mm bolts on the latch. Loosen them and slide the latch down a little at a time. If you adjust it too much and put too much tension it, the hood will not reopen.

If your hood is more the 3/16" or so out of adjustment, odds are that the car has been jacked up improperly. If the car is jacked up by the core support, it will not hold the weight of the car and will bend up which also moves the upper core support that the hood latch is attached to, this results in the hood being high even when the latch is bottomed out. Look under the car for damage on the core support directly in front of the radiator, it is typically obvious as it should be completely flat.

**Edit**

In the photo, it appears as though the hoods aligns properly with the fenders. If that is the case, all you need to do is shim the center panel up a little.

Hello all i realize this is a 9 year old topic but it addresses my issue exactly.
I recently had my engine replaced less than a week and noticed while driving home that my hood seemed to be shaking when i got hm i noticed my hood wasn't' sitting flush as it was before i towed it down to the shop.
I brought it to there attention that it seemed off ,they said something about the latch but it closed and lock fine. Then i googled it and came across this post and sure enough i see that damage right in the middle of that bar that that the 3 bolt latch connects to.
My question is can that bar be replaced cause it looks like it can thx

The upright can be replaced, there are 2 bolts on the bottom and 2 on top.

you will need to pound the lower core support down(possibly the top too) to get a new vertical bar to fit back in. I've had to fit a few of these before in varying degrees of damage.

Personally I'd lay a 4 foot level across the upper support to verify it's flat and if so, and the vertical support won't fit, then you will need to drive the lower support down as itsa300zx mentions, but only if this scenario is present. Do carefully inspect all areas as it is common for shops to jack the car improperly and have caused the damage, but not cop to it unless you can prove it...been there, done that several times before ceasing to use anything but a Z specialist for all of my cars. Too many shops use kids for cheap wages to do the grunt work, and they don't know anything they aren't told...
