As you may know, I am building up a '90 Q45 for The Grassroots Motorsports Magazine $2015 Challenge. Autox/Drag/Concourse.

The question I have here is focused on autocross rubber and wheels. The questions I have are:

1. Do other Nissan, Infiniti wheels fit directly with no spacers?
2. How big/wide of a wheel can I fit onto the Q45?
3. How much tire can I then fit?

As a reminder, this build will be done on a budget. The Q45 currently is outfitted with 16" OZ rims. I could stay with those, but, I also see 17" and 18" Nissan rims that I think would fit and can be bought cheap. I will have to include the purchase price of the new rims into my budget but I am allowed 4 tires that do not have to be counted into the budget. So, spending $100 will allow me to run wider rubber. Sure, the 18" tires will cost a lot more than the 16" tires but I do not have to show it in the budget.

Here are some front runner choices:

17x7.5 and 17x8 350z $150/4

$100/4 but unsure of size 350z wheels; I think 18" but I am unsure if these are staggered?

If I go with either of these, I think I will spray them a bronze color. Not just any bronze but try to be the exact color of the door molding and lower trim done on the white Q45.

What do you think both gives the best performance and appearance?

Thoughts, opinions and input welcome.

To get the most rim for you buck you should look for FX35/45 20" rims, those are pretty cheaply sourced now (obviously used ones) and you can stick 20's on there. I don't think the 3rd Gen Q's ever were offered with anything bigger than 18" those all fit easily with no spacers. Avoid anything off the M series as the offset is completely different and will require spaces, I found that out the hard way and had to put 22mm spacers onto my car with 06' M45 Spacers (but it does look bad-a**).

You can also find 18" FX and 3rd Gen Q45 rims out there on the cheap that will bolt directly on. The tire size 245/40 will fit most of those sizes easily and give you plenty of meat on the road.
