Nissan's got a pretty cool calculator that will help you find out:

Electric Car Savings Calculator

I'm curious to see how the savings vary across our demographic - Post up your results! :dblthumb:

Nope, I haven't had the pleasure yet. The motor is still out my-tt-project-t559943.html

That was with my 3/4 diesel Ram (modified) and the fact that I work from home, so don't drive much ;)

Yeah, I drive a Titan every day to and from work, and as my go-around vehicle. I spend a TON of money on fuel, I average around 14 MPG. I leased a Leaf a few months ago, $192 a month for 24 months, no money due at signing, no money down. I get a $5000 tax CREDIT on my State taxes, I can charge the Leaf for free at work, it costs me only $62 a month to insure. I will be saving about $200-$350 a month by letting my Titan sit. Plus, the tax CREDIT pays for the lease. It made total sense for me to get one.....

I spent a total of $225 this year on electricity. If I had bought a car like a Prius I figured that for the same 8800 miles she drove I would have paid around $1,500 for gas in the Bay Area given how high our gas prices were here this year. However, in order to get that dirt cheap pricing I had to have a second meter onto my house, since I had the largest box that was already installed, I had to do a bunch of extra work, all to the cost of $3,750 (that 2 was 2 grand for electrical work and $1,795 for the Nissan Meter). Unforunately I didn't qualify for the freebie installation of the charger as I live in a more rural area.

So given I saved about approximately $1275 on gas chargers this year that brings my outstanding balance on the charger to $2475...also remember I didn't have to do any oil changes (2 at least) as well. So given this rate I will be in the clear in year 4 of ownership, since I have a 8 year warranty I took out that gives me 4 years on the backside of very little to no $$ for electricity as the PG&E rates for the levels 0 and 1 (usually late night) are unlikely to change very much in the next 10 years.

Not sure about their calculator but here is MY actual numbers.

I spent $8722 in gasoline last year of driving an ICE (sep 2013 to sep 2014) I drive 30 to 40 thousand miles a year (estimate 25 to 30 k on the leaf at current rate) Delivery Driver.

SO each "battery" (of which I will need an estimated 2 in the life of the car) will cost me $6000 but will save me $20 to $30 THOUSAND dollars in gasoline. Each.

I get around half my electricity from my 2 jobs gratis and I have enough solar to offset about 40% of my Leaf electrical needs so I only pay around 10% out of pocket since 90% of my power needs are either gratis from work or solar offset.

ie I can effectively "ignore" the cost of electricity. it is too small to even bother calculating but just because I know people will want to know. 30,000 miles would cost me $600 a year in electricity if I had to pay all of it out of pocket.

it has severe limitations such that I can not ever use the heater while working (takes too much power) but beyond that I don't care. wonderful car comfy stylish gorgeous and saving me cold hard cash.

today was a slow day at work. very slow. $40 in tips (crap day) gas cost? zero. oh yeah!

I realize this post is late, just wanted to post anyway. I just purchased a 2019 with 30k miles for 24995
Driving this as commuter car 107 miles round trip. With solar on the house, I can drive round trip with more than 25% battery left.
Saving the service van, and the wear and tear on it. Which also costs like the other guy was saying, if it were driven 5 days a week,
The cost at todays gas prices (San Diego) run over $1000 per month. So it looks like a big savings. More on this subject in a few months.
