I don't know the flat rate on the job off the top of my head. Do yourself a favor if you are gonna have a shop install it. Let them supply the parts. I won't warranty a job that I don't supply the parts on. Yeah you will pay a little more for the parts but you will get a warranty to go with the job.\

When the tensioners died on my '91 F/b with Hicas (sold) and the lower chain broke the Nissan dealership quoted me $1750 for both new chains and both up and lower tensioners. If you are handy with a wrench and have another set of wheels for transportion I suggest DIY. Makes for wonderful incite on the workings of your engine. All parts and new head gasket set ran me about $300-400 from NAPA. Only other thing needed possibly a manual to reference (please do not use the Haynes most if not all their torque specs are incorrect). Best of luck to you

do it yourself:)......even though the crank timing chain is hard to do, the cam timing chain is easy.

I just finished up doing it myself yesterday. It was a *****! but it was worth the money I saved. I didnt know I was going to have to drop the oil pan lift the engine a lil and take the oil pickup loose just to get the front cover off! but after its all done its worth it, no more dreaded timing chain noise tickin on the valve cover I would order a timing chain kit off the net, it cost me $350 at O'reillys and I didnt put new guides on the top so it would have been around $380-90 if I bought those. or you can get a complete set off the net for like $250 I think.

Man, what is with these prices? I see timing kits for the SOHC for 82$ at Autozone and Advance Auto Parts. I know they dont include the oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket but those arnt that much either. I couldnt see this costing more than 150$ if I did it myself. Am I missing something here? Timing Kit with chain, tensioners, guides....etc 83$Valve Cover Gasket 17$Oil Pan Gasket 20$Liquid Gasket 7$New Oil and Filter 14$Antifreeze 6$New Belts 35$Total 182$

What am I missing?

a 84 Supra wouldnt be that much faster I dont think. I had a 87 Turbo but ended up getting rid of it and have kicked myself every day since then for it. Though it is a inline twin cam 6 so it would have to have some potential. But if you dont get it then I want it LOL. I have been looking for an old Celica Supra for a fun project.
