likely not. Motorex was charging much more than that so anyone with a federally legal car would want bank, it's a seller's market. Snuck in cars with flimsy paperwork would be less but come with risk.

i would not pay more then $15k for a non gtr that is already in the states

they sell for $5k tops in japan, $10k for a stock gtr

for $20k you could find a decent gtr

motorex was a highway robbery business

$20k would just barely cover it. I own two R33 GTR's and have worked with a company in the UK that can get the directly from auction. After all the transportation to the US that is the minimum going rate for all the hassles and expenses.

Finding a fed legal R32/R33 is going to be extremely pricey, as TMS said, because of what MotorEx was charging for them while still in business. I'd be real surprised to see someone with one let them go for less than $35K, to be honest.

Buying one with just a state registration would be the best bet, but you'll have the associated risks involved with it.

As I said in my previous post;

______________"i would not pay more then $15k for a non gtr that is already in the statesthey sell for $5k tops in japan, $10k for a stock gtr

for $20k you could find a decent gtr

motorex was a highway robbery business"______________

Fact is that the 96-98 33 models are able to be brought in with no questions asked. So long as you go through the proper channels you can easily purchase a GTR for around $10k straight from Japan and have it shipped for $5k, the rest of the expenses are not that much.....seriously.

If you want something other then what I just mentioned then there will be a slight risk factor but it only is with the port entry. Prices vary depending on if you want a 32 or 34 obviously but a non-GTR 34 could easily run you right at or slightly under $10k.

Look for yourself, these cars do not cost THAT much. Get a friend to buy one for you and ship it state-side.http://db.datanext.co.jp/4DCGI...rt=NA

How big of a risk is there with importing an R34? I'm not really sure how the state registration works and if it does work what keeps customs from coming and impounding it?

Yeah I have thanks, but he just said

Quote »If you want something other then what I just mentioned then there will be a slight risk factor but it only is with the port entry.[/quote]Slight risk is not really what I was seeing in that thread and also he said its only risky with port entry sounds like after that everything is fine and dandy. So once again my question is how big of a risk is there? I love the R33 my favorite body style but the R34's technology really amazes me.

The risks are when the car arrives at the port, clearing customs. After customs you have to worry about registering, after registering you have to worry about emissions testing in your area, after that you have to worry about being pulled over. It's a never ending risk if you are looking at the R34/32 models, even the 33 in some cases.

That is part of the luggage that comes with owning the Skyline. You have to have papers always in the glove box and ready to tell the story if ever questioned, while crossing your fingers.

There are MANY methods to get by everything and not have to worry as much. Different routes taken for registration and where you live for emissions testing makes a big difference in the long run. For example in my area and state I can simply drop off the title and have it changed over with no one having to physically inspect the car, as well as exempt from emissions testings and only required to have a safety inspection completed...which i have someone I know to do that for me.

Just a few tid bits of helpful info. There is a lot of naysaying on this forum section but nothing is impossible, it's about who you know and where you live.

I live in PA and we just mainly have safety inspection and I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem finding someone to pass it. Mainly I'm worried about customs coming and impounding a car that I dumped 20-30k bucks into.

Was reading through some other threads and appears the main reason the Skylines that are being impounded are found is because they use original Japanese VIN #'s. So if you get a US 17 Digit VIN I guess you have a much smaller chance of anything going wrong? Still obviously some risk if they decide to take further measures.

i remember there was a website that would sell a skyline for arround 3000 and shipping for it was about 2000. not bad for a used skyline non gtr but just imagine the import tax on something like that.

I live in Japan and R34 GTR's start around 10K You can get better deals running around here but doubt you can find them for any less on any of these web sites they have around. I just got a 95 GTS-T for 1000 bucks so just depends if the owner of the car really needs to get ride of it. Here you can only own as many cars as you have verified parking spaces. So if someone buys a new car then they have to hurry up and get rid of there old one or they have to junk it.

You are out of your mind. An R34 R for around $10K...WHERE?! I've been here for over 7 years and have never, EVER, seen a 34 R for that cheap. I just bought an R33 V-Spec for $13k...one owner, 66k kilometers.

I got a steal on it, too. Paint is near flawless, it's pretty much stock and unmoletsted with the exception of a boost controller and exhaust. Owner was 42 years old. All maintenence records for the last 15 years included.

You show me a $10K 34 R, please. I would love to see one, cause I would trade my V-Spec in for it in a heartbeat.

Motorex originally charged a ton for Skylines as a result of DOT legal modifications done to the cars to make them meet US requirements, including crash testing (costing around 400K+ for each model). These cars are now a collectors item because of their modifications and DOT legal status. Motorex had an unfortunate end, however legally it is still possible to own a skyline in the US, albeit VERY difficult to achieve.

I've seen R34s go for 80-90K with these mods in place; gray market ones go for less, but the high risk for losing your investment is there.
