Hood difficulties? 1994 hardbody

I have a 1994 Nissan 4x4 hardbody king cab. Wipers stopped working, oddly I think the motor is working so I think maybe a iink came undone? Does this seem likely?

I am wondering if it's possible to get in there and fish around without removing the hood and cowl.

Assuming I do have to remove the hood, how heavy is it? Meaning do I need to bring in a neighbor or can my wife help with this one?
