Hitches and Car Warranty

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I've read on other threads that Inifiniti will void our warranties if we use our EX for towing. I want to put in a hitch for carrying bikes, or a hitch basket, but not tow anything.

So what's the real deal? Will just installing a hitch void the warranty?

I was told by my dealer yesterday, that they will void the warranty unless the hitch (only after- market is available) is installed by the dealership. My salesman told me the ex is rated to tow 3500 pounds, but then he was less that exact on other information. Hope this helps.

In the towing capacity battle, the Q5 fairly thrashes its named competitors -- the BMW X3, Infiniti EX35, Land Rover LR2 HSE and Lexus RX350. All can tow cargo, so long as it's less than 3,500 lbs (or 1,500 lbs in the Acura RDX's case, and none in the Infiniti's). Meanwhile, the little SUV from Ingolstadt can haul 4,400 lbs

This is taken from a Motortrend article online, "http://wot.motortrend.com/6415385/auto- ... x.html"but doesn't answer the warranty question. I would think it the authorized dealer sells and installs it the warranty would be valid

Price quote was somewhere between $850 and $1000

So if your AC stops working the dealer is going to refuse to fix it saying the problem was caused by the trailer hitch? Do you folks really believe everything car/service sales folks tell you?

They/Nissan have to prove the modification you made caused or contributed to the problem. The reverse is you have to prove it didn't. Somethings are a no brainier, others can be shades of gray.

So you sometimes pull a trailer and your transmission fails what do you expect Nissan to tell you? You could pay to have the failed transmission inspected and take Nissan to court if the failure had nothing to do with trailer towing. Not a good use of some people's time.
