I'll just copy and paste from the other forum, since I'll be here more often now...

IlyaKol wrote:Hey folks so...the time has come to part with my M. I will still be around, but I will just be (most likely) more active on the Y51 sub-forum.

Over the last few months, I've been having days where I wanted a new car and days where I really liked not having a car payment. Many people have tried to talk me out of getting back into a payment and for a little while I agreed. But, long story short, today I came in to my dealer for some service and walked out having signed the paperwork for a 2011 M56x. I have no debt, make a good living, and can easily afford the payment...so, I gave in.

Old car: 2007 M35x - purchased in May of 2010
  • 137kmi as of today - no issues just needs brakes. Needs a front end respray, new headlights and some dents fixed here or there to look tip-top...but for it's year and mileage, very clean.
  • Base model w/ Navigation (8 speakers, no other cool tech)
  • MXP Exhaust (one off - as far as I know, don't know if they ever made any more for the general public)
  • BC Coilovers
  • 19" BE by Breyton GTS-AV Wheels
  • UpRev tuned
  • Motordyne 5/16" Copper ISO Thermal Spacer
  • Stillen Z-Tube
  • Morimoto HIDs (low beam and fogs) from TheRetrofitSource.com
  • Interior and exterior LED upgrade
  • USA Spec. PA15-NIS iPod Adapter
Car is being traded in as-is, only thing I'm keeping is the wheels. Don't have the stock suspension or exhaust, so can't part that out. At the mileage it has, it's going to the auction anyway. They won't be trying to sell it on the lot.

New car: 2011 M56x - car is from FL and was a lease return. Thinking of coating the under body since NY winters are known to wreak havoc on under bodies.
  • 40,xxx kmi as of todays test drive
  • Deluxe Touring Package - Bose Studio Surround Sound System and Power Rear Sunshade
  • Technology Package - Active Trace Control, Adaptive Front Lighting System, Blind Spot Warning & Intervention Systems, Distance Control Assist, and Intelligent Cruise Control
  • Rear deck lid spoiler
  • 19" BE by Breyton GTS-AV Wheels (transferred from other car)
Overall plans for the new car:

Will happen/likely to happen:
  • LED Interior/Exterior
  • Upgraded D2S Bulbs
  • PIAA 18535 H8 Plasma Ion Yellow fog light bulbs (decided to not go HID this time around)
  • Tint (20% all around and 50% front windshield)
  • Midnight Black Grille
  • BC Racing Coilovers
  • UpRev Tune
  • TollboothWilley Engine Under Tray (will have to work with him on developing one)
50/50 chance of happening:
  • V-Leds V3 Triton LED Turn Signal System (front and back)
  • Upgrade to 50w Ballasts
  • Sarona Roof Spoiler
  • Sport Front Bumper
  • Aero Side Sills
  • Megan Racing Camber Kit, Toe Arms, and Traction Arms
  • 20" Vossen Wheels
  • Akebono Brake Upgrade
  • Grounding Wires
  • Stillen Catback Exhaust
  • Intake (if one is developed)
  • Intake Plenum/TB Spacer (if one is developed)
  • Strut Bar (if one is developed)

-----------------------------------

As for the price, I feel I did quite well for my second time (first time I bought a used car, I got shafted due to not knowing much going in - car was clearly repaired in the front and front passenger wheel was BADLY worn on the inside).

Price before negotiation: $31,995
Tax: $2,559.60
Fees: $271
Trade-In: $8,000
Price before negotiation OTD: $26,825

I negotiated the following into the deal at $25,799 OTD:
  • Keep my aftermarket wheels
  • Infiniti Elite Warranty until 98k (+48mo/48kmi) - $2319
  • Extra $500 on the trade-in bringing it up to $8,500
  • Got the price of the car down from $31,995 to $29,823.15
-----------------------------------

I pick it up Monday, and then the fun begins.

I do have a question though...I have a brand new set of brakemotive pads/rotors which were going to go on the M35 sitting in the garage. Will these work on the M56? If so, awesome. If not, oh well. I can probably sell em for $150 and get back most of the money spent on em.

On the topic of performance...is there a z-tube like 'mod' for this car? Or is the stock intake good? I don't believe in cold air intakes (heat soak, etc.)...

Welcome...back!
Not sure if the brakes will work. There are some 56 guys doing pretty nice things. Hopefully they will chime in.

Oh, we need pics of wheels on car :)

Okay so...I had some time to spend a few hours with the car today. My old M35 wheels are on the car and swapped over most of the LED bulbs (need to buy new front and rear dome LED's). However, some things I noticed:

1) No 6-disc changer? I guess they assume everyone is using a smart phone/ipod these days.
2) Speaking of iPod, I have the 14sprk package...am I just blind or does my car not have the option for an iPod cable? I don't see a jack or cable anywhere. Did that only come with the package that gives you the rear seat entertainment? Looks like I may have to buy a USA Spec for this car...if they even make it. If they don't, anyone have a solution?
3) Both mirrors go down in reverse (slightly) or completely if you do one side. NICE!
4) How does Navigation updating work? I buy a disc and put it in which updates the HDD? Or the dealer has a special disc which does it? Mine are the 09-10 maps...DEFINITELY need to update.

5) I setup FM1/FM2/XM1/XM2/XM3 last night and this morning all but FM2 reset. Why? The battery didn't die (car started right up without issue and if the battery died wouldn't FM2 have been reset)?

I think I saw in a different thread that you figured out the iPod thing...I was pissed when I realized the radio doesn't have the 6 CD changer. As for the maps updates, you'll have to go to the dealership to get that updated...I can't speak to ur radio presets not staying that is very odd..

Yeah, iPod you just need a standard USB -> iPod cable.

The CD changer would be nice just in case, but whatever lol.

Thanks...I figured that was the case.

It's funny because Biggie had a similar presets.

Correct for the iPod thing. It's actually really nice it's integrated into the radio. You can move through playlists pretty quickly. I know when I had the iSimple adapter, there was always a bit of a lag and scrolling through menus and playlists took forever.

I agree completely about the CD changer..had to get over it lol

Yeah, the USA Spec on the M35 was nice but once you put 7+ playlists on it with 2,200 songs, it does slow down just a smidge. If what you say is true, and no lag, that would be icing on the cake. I am LOVING my satellite radio though, even if it's costing me $200/yr. Freakin beautiful. I have so much music at my fingertips now that I don't know what to do with it all lol.

I've never done the XM thing.

Still have to plug in my ipod to see how easy that is. Also may just put all my songs on a USB drive if that will work the same and let my wife use the ipod.

Right now I'm riding with my big '90s book of CDs trying to get them all to record on the music box. 10 down, about 180 to go...

:rotflmao . 90's book. Haha, good times. I'm only 27 but I remember those days well. We went through a lot back then, technology wise.

iPod cable to USB worked like a freakin charm. No offense to the awesome USA Spec I had in the M35, but the integration done here is GREAT. Like damn. I presume USB should work okay too. I need to buy a USB to 3.5 cable and see if that transfers whatever is happening on my Android. Anyone know?

Did you use a standard Apple brand cable? I have a knockoff cable and couldn't get the USB to recognize an Ipod there.

Did you try unplugging the cable and plugging it back in?

I'm using a Griffin coiled cord, and it works fine with an iPod 5.5 video 80gb, and an iPod Classic 160gb.

I was in Disc when I plugged it in and it immediately switched sources and said "loading USB drive" or something along those lines.

Used the real cord without issue. Apparently the ebay cords aren't too good for anything other than charging.

Is there a way to get the voice prompts to stop giving me a 20 minute speech before I can pick a selection (I know I can hit the button again to make her cut to the chase but is there a way to disable her 'guiding' for the prompts completely?)

Also, how do I clean the MPG counter on the speedometer? It doesn't seem to be tied into the one on the info screen.
