OK, I was having a problem with my Acer 19" monitor. So, I bought a 21" widescreen (I hafta upgrade whenever I replace something)....

Here was the problem: The screen looked like it was "faded" - Like a photo that's been left in the sun.

On an old TV, you'd crank the "color" button to adjust it. But I've toyed with EVERY adjustment (even in Advanced Settings) and nothing helps.

SO, I get my new monitor set up and it does the SAME thing!!!!

Reds look pinkish, black text looks grey, deep blue looks powder blue...

Could this be a graphics card problem?

Sounds like a contrast issue...

Yes, it sounds like a graphics card problem if both monitors are doing it. Most definitely.

Check your colors in your display properties to make sure they are how you like them. If they are already correct, I would look into a replacement.

Weird how it did that. My first guess would be the monitors back light is going out. but since they both are doing it. Graphics card.

Hope this helps.

Make sure its on 32bit color and not 16bit color in the display properties.

Also, I can probably pin point it alittle bit better if I know the graphic card you were using, I could then guide you through the advanced settings to check certain aspects.

BTW, if it was your graphics card, you would be getting different results if your card was going, almost like fireworks all over the screen. Haha, graphics cards don't run out of color.. Get back to me with your graphics card type.

OK, I'm at TrueColor 32-bit in settings.

1280x768 is my current res.

PC is an eMachines T3025.

Graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU.

I notice if I go in and adjust the gamma, it looks better. BUT, with the last monitor, I kept adjusting it until I ran out of adjustment.

I know they don't "run out of color" but that's what it looks like, hahaha...

Thanks Ken and George!

Sounds like you do need a new card. Although being 100% is hard because I don't see it in person but from what you said thats my guess.

You should not have to adjust the Gamma, unless you just have something you want to look brighter or darker. Like a movie or photo. In other words, in the middle is where your monitor should look right.

Do you still have a warranty on it. Guessing you got it in 2004.

I have the gamma all the way cranked on this monitor now... And it's still looking "pale".
