To clarify, it appears this is a petition for NY residents only.

I believe less than half the states are rear plate only. There are some revenue factors that probably work against eliminating front plates. For example, with so many EZPASS cheaters in NY ( a byproduct of having a big population), authorities have a better chance capturing the plate image if there were two plates instead of one. Parking scofflaws (boot candidates) are easier to identify.

Good luck in your quest.

Eliminating front plates diminishes the point of plates in the first place. Everyone should be seen coming and going.

I kinda like living in a state where it's one tag only. generally, the front ends look nicer without them, but for vehicles with ugly noses like smiley faced Acura's, and Pontiac Azteks for example, the front plates hide some of the ugliness and might be considered an improvement. :)

Leave NY. That state's laws are s*** and they are just adding more. Petitions crack me up. Do you really think the government cares about you and your silly little petition? Leave NY, be happy.

or you could just bend your plate so the only thing showing is the numbers and then stick it in the gap of your bumper?

Good luck at any rate. NY, upstate at least, is still a really pretty place.

Thanks man, appreciate it

Yeah, out of the city about half an hour. Quiet little town. Cops just have nothing better to do so they prowl for the small stuff like front plates lol

I keep my front plate in the trunk. If a cop wants to fine me for it then fine.

Just curious, have you received any missing plate tickets since you started doing that?

No, but they don't seem hungry for revenue here. I can, however, imagine other towns hard-up for cash using it as an excuse to pull people over.

I also have the cosmetic filler still installed on the front of my car (it came from PA) so it doesn't really look like there's anything missing from that space.

I have also found that having a cute beagle (or two) in the car helps greatly if you do get pulled over... :dblthumb:

I kinda see both sides. It's unfortunate that some cars just don't look good with a front plate (I'm looking at you, Solstice). But plates do have a purpose. For the most part, though, I'm inclined to lean toward the "make it optional" camp. I'd run them on my car, since it has a plate holder and there are already holes in the bumper. Lots of my friends with Solstices and Corvettes and S2000s would be happy not to have to, though.

I have a friend who is a highway patrol in Texas. I asked him how many front plate violations you have written. (It is required in Texas, too). His answer (in 10 years)....One, it was an 18 year old driving a Lamborghini that was giving him attitude.

Then a friend at work got a ticket for speeding and no front plate at the same time. The reflective plates make a good front target for cops with radar guns :)

Bump?

Got annoyed and took my front plate off a few days ago. I've got it on the dash with the screws in my change tray in case I get pulled over. I really wish this would go through.

Pretty sure thats illegal as well. I read somewhere that license plates are gov't property on loan to you. Thats why you have to give them back when you take your car off the road. I know, its gay.

You have to give them back in MD or you get a crazy fine. My sister got a $400 fine for turning them in LATE, so I don't know what would happen if you weren't to turn them in at all.

-Sir, you are in charge of a state in which one of our cities holds 20 million people, it smells like total garbage all the time, has the worst roads on the planet, the traffic is outrageous and we are constantly the 1st or 2nd target in any possible terrorlst attack.

-Hang on, hang on... I'm busy reading this petition these ricers signed. I'm thinking of also adding an addendum stating that sleepy eyes and tow hook mascots must be displayed at all times.
