The problem:The speedometer, odometer (the odometer displays but does not count mileage), the scrolling of the navigation system & sunroof slide (the sunroof will pop up to vent but will not slide open) do not work.

Dashboard warning lights for ABS, Brake, Slip & VDC are all on.

Error codes: P0500, P1212, U1001, P1574 & P0507

The car is running fine besides that, it is shifting fine, the idol is ok, no problems starting it and no funny noises.

A new battery was installed after the errors were found and it did not fix the problem also I had it in the shop and they verified the alternator is running fine. The shop found a couple blown fuses in the systems that matched the error codes above, put new ones in and the problem went away. I drove 2 miles from the shop and all the problems happened again.

The car is going back into the shop on Thursday but I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

In keeping the knowledge base going:

The cause of this problem was a dead short in the ABS control unit. The short was between the IPDM to ABS control unit. The red/black power feed was grounding out over bumps to the ABS actuator bracket.

Luckily it was not the ABS unit itself because that would have been a $1300 job.

This is happening to my 03 Infiniti G35 now(P1212 & U1001), can you tell me where the physical location of the IPDM to ABS control unit is that was shorting out? What exactly did you do to fix it?

Thanks,Lil Red

The issue is the location of the ABS Control Unit is not going to be in the same location on a G35 as a Maxima. You need to check with your FSM to determine the location of the unit.

In general to fix a short, the wire that is causing the short (usually damaged) is replaced with new wire. You also have to replace any fuses that have blown out due to the short.
