so, i have a 92 G50, and JDM president trunk on my Q. my ignition key does NOT work for the president trunk, and i do not have the key for it.

it used to work with the remote popper, but now it does not. im guessing i put something heavy in it and bent up the little hook latch guy.

is there anyway i can open the trunk other than the button for the solinoid (solinoid is working), or the key that i dont have? I was pondering pulling the rear seats, but im guessing the gas tank is in the way

please help me. i REALLYneed my trunk open - have some very time sensitive things in there.

Dear Supermoose,

You can get into the trunk by removing the rear speakers, but I do not know if how this will help you. Maybe you can correct the problem interfering with the trunk release.

Remove the seat bottom and back, then remove the rear deck. The speakers screw in from the top. Remove them and you can see into the trunk.

I hope this helps.

Jim

Note: When reinstalling the speakers be careful not to slip with the screwdriver and damage the speaker.

thanks for the suggeston. i will try to get to it.

the solinoid is working properly though- im guessing that the actual sheetmetal is bent around the latch area - as we can hear the solinoid moving and my buddy tried to pull up on it while hitting the button repeatedly.

wonder if there is a accessport on the bottom of the trunk....

Try pushing down on the trunk or lifting the trunk while turning the key. This worked on another Nissan I fiddled with.

I second Wes.... push down or even sit on the trunk while popping it with the remote. Of course you'll have to time the release so it can open

Too late to say this, but I think you should take the lock from the old trunk lid and put it on the new one once you get it open. If you do have the old lock. take it to a locksmith and they'll pop the lock and put the lock from the old lid.

I mirror what the others said, lift and pull would be my first bet. I posted a thing on how to fix the messed up trunk release mechanism. the short answer is, even if you were inside the trunk i dont think you could open it from inside, just the way its designed... I think I tried once and wasnt able to do it...

This is from my 1990 Q with stock trunk lid. Did not close trunk all the way due to fear my 16 year old son would not let me out.

In this picture the trunk is open approx 1 inch. You can see when it closes that the latch will be completely hidden.

In this picture there is a slot to the left of the 2 bolts where you could use a screw driver to move the release lever that is operated by the electric trunk release. The plastic has to be held back th access the slot.

So if you had a screwdriver or similar object the is how you would get yourself out of the trunk if locked in. Maybe if reaching through the speaker or storage compartment holes use a long stiff wire or steel rod with a hook on it to hold the plastic back. Then use another wire or rod to move the trunk release. Or maybe I'm just dreaming.

figured it out last week.

drove for a couple days, made appointment with lock company to take care of it. endedup that if you put the key in ign + position that it triggers the solinoid to work. wiggled, lifted while lock guy turned the key and hi the button - then it popped open!

Then, i removed the president trim and the lock cylinder and handed it to then.

$65 later, they gave me the lock cylinder RE-KEYED for my OEM USDM ignition key!!! so cool.

my trunk popper still dosnt work, but the key does!

will fix trunk popper after i regain gears 1/2/R

hahah. thanks guys!

where can you get a president trunk? japan. or if you stole my keychain

For future reference for anyone unfortunate enough to lose their keys or only have a valet key like I did, this explanation and pics helped me get in mine quite easily.
