Overview:

Ever stripped a thread out of your head? You've probably heard of Helicoil then. Using these inserts is a fairly simple process and can save you a lot of time and money.

A Helcoil is simply an insert that fills a stripped bolt hole allowing it to be re-tapped to use the original hardware. Take the bolt from the stripped hole to the hardware store with you to get the correct size for your application. The kit comes with almost everything you need.

Tools:

-Helicoil Kit-Power drill-PB blaster or equivalent-Shop rag

Procedure:

Place the shop rag around the area you will be working with to catch the excess lube and metal shavings this procedure will create.

Spray the area with the lube, then prepare the drill with the proper bit to drill out the hole.

When the hole is drilled correctly and clear of debris, spray more lube into it and use the tap to create a new thread for the Helicoil. Turn it clockwise one or two turns, then back it out a quarter turn to clear the the tap of the chips.

Clean out the hole with the lube again. Thread the Helicoil onto the tool and install it into the hole.

Re-install your bolt to ensure that it fits correctly.

After you are finished, everything should work exactly as it did before you stripped the hole.
