Headed to DC and Leaving Whip At Airport! Worries?

Postby dflane39 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:40 am

Hi everyone,

I'm taking off for Washington DC to see my husband's grandmother receive a Congressional Gold Medal for being a WASP.....Women Airforce Service Pilot.....yes, this woman flew planes in WWII! The President signed a bill in July honoring these women for their service and this Wednesday they will receive their medal in a ceremony originally headed by President Obama. We just got word a couple of days ago that now he is not going to be at the presentation....the first time a President has not presented this medal. I haven't heard who is doing it instead, maybe Vice-President Biden.
These women, along with the Tuskegee Airmen and Navajo Code Callers are the only people to receive this honor from WWII, in part because they were not recognized for their service back in the day.
So, I'm parking at the airport, covered parking and hoping I come back to my car in the same condition I left it. Anyone have any horror airport stories I can torture myself with for the four days I'm gone?

I've got no horror stories for ya but I've always preferred paying for parking in the off-site "secure" lots that are generally down the street or across the street and haven't ever had any problems. Enjoy the trip!

Spokane International Airport (joke!) is kinda of a weird setup for parking......I should add I do have the added luxury of having a handicapped parking pass due to my total knee replacement a year and a half ago, that is actually going back under the knife in June cause its not working right. Years of athletics contributed to that and unfortunately even though Im entitled to use the pass, I don't unless I'm in real pain, cause people look at me crazy cause I don't LOOK handicapped...anyhoo, parking in one of those spaces might afford me a little protection unless some old dude in a boat parks next to me and swings their damn door open!

I agree with xfactor0707 on this matter. Better se safe than sorry . Sucks that the President will not be able to do the ceremony.

deff u never leave ur whip in places for a long time like wen i get outta school ima buy a older alty/max or somethin n drive that to the train.

At the airport my dad works at "cant specify" 5 cars got broken into n it was the Customs officiers cars that were broken into. The secuirity said they didnt catch anything so yea i wouldnt trust my car there EVER like we were gonna trade for the winters since im in pa n its bad snow but we decided that it was a bad idea either broken into or fd up in the lot bc that happens alot

How many days? I'm going on a short bz trip next week and will park it overnight at the airport(Minneapolis). It will be just for a day 1/2 though, so I'm not worried. IMO, id park it on a off site parking lot.

I ended up at the airport with the car. I had to DJ, then had class & didn't have time to take the car back home to Spokane (EWU is about a 16-20 mile commute from home & closer to the airport) I found a great spot right by an entrance to the airport, plenty of lighting and not hood spot to break into a car. Spokane really only has 2 kinds of parking....covered or outside! There are some Park & Rides but I'm not too fond of those since they are off-site from the airport and manned by god knows who! I'm back Thursday afternoon by 1p, so I'm hoping all will right when I get back.

Id never park in a handicapped spot.. even with a limp...

Everyday at work I see someone in the handicapped spot (elderly) who slam their door into the car next to it, to use it as leverage to get out of the car.

I've parked my car several times at the "remote parking" lot in DFW airport and never had anything bad happen to my car thank god. I'd say I've left my car there about 10 or so times.

toxik, I'm crushed! Did you think I made that whole story up? I'm on the plane now, headed back .... you can get wifi in the air! So I'm logged on to one of my favorite spots, NICO, to check the news:) can't wait to get home and in my car!! Of course I had my eyes peeled for any A/Cs while I was in DC and did spot a white one, with spoiler, around the Gaylord Hotel... Think it might have been a 2.5 from glancing at the wheels and side mirrors...

LOL.....I'll remember that! Well, I made back to Spokane and other than being a little dusty, the whip remains intact. In fact, the one person that was parked on the other side of me was still there........was good to get back behind the wheel! The downside? It's freakin snowing! Guess ya can't have everything!

toxik, this is for you
