Play DVD's on Nav Screen while in motion!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Looking to get my Nav bypassed so that I can watch DVD's while on a trip. Has anyone successfully done this yet and if so could you explain or let me know where you got it done. Thanks!

Yes. Nav/DVD mod works great. Looking into the All Around View override, now.. Would like to be able to engage it sooner when pulling into parking spot/curb. Found the wiring diagram for the Around View Monitor Control Unit, and there's a speed signal wire listed. Just not sure if snipping the wire would do it, or if it's actually looking for a specific signal (or voltage) to tell it you're doing <6.2 mph.

Anyone have any idea?

I have done this mod on two Armada's, one Murano, and on my new G37x, the mod is completed the same way on all of these vehicles. Use the Factory Service Manual to direct you on how to remove the center console pieces. The FSM will also identify the VSS wire and the E-Brake wire that you need to tap into for this mod. :mike

Timmbo,
I'd like to do that bypass, but primarily so all the nav touch functions would work while moving. Is there a delay or other change with the Nav when you have this in place? (I mean change in a negative way- not the more functionality way.)

Literally at the flip of a switch you can go from TOTALLY stock, to being able to watch DVD's (and have full Nav menu functions while moving). If you have your DVD playing while driving, and hit the Nav button, yes, it will not keep up, but all you do is flip the switch you installed, and everything goes back to normal within a couple seconds, it is totally a worth while mod!!!!!! :bigthumb:

The modification usually incorporates a switch to switch the vss signal in or out depending on whether you want to access the video or locked out nav functions. With the vss signal switched back in, performance is normal. With the vss signal switched out the nav system will function approximately - the position will slew around a bit as the car doesn't want to believe its moving as there is no vss signal. Any route navigation functions will be approximate only - you may be off by a mile or so on a highway. In practice on my 2009 g37 a short access to the locked out nav system doesn't mess things up and it will restore normal operation within a second or two. If someone has been watching a video for half an hour or so, the system may take up to 30 sec to return to normal nav accuracy. I'd call it a recommended mod.

I'm trying to persuade my wife to let me do it to her 2010 EX35. She is fearful of refused dealer support in the future despite assurances and past experience.

I have had NO issues with any warranty work. Granted, I don't think I had anything related to the AV unit, but again, in the "stock" position, everything would test out as normal by the dealer.

The one issue I am worried about is the current tsb for the nav system - if they have to pull the console they'll run into my wiring. On my g37 I mounted the switch (very professionally imho) in the ash tray and the wiring ties directly up to the upper console where the radio is. So when removing the trim piece around the shifter (which includes the ash tray) you need to either snip the wires or just move the trim piece a little bit. In hind sight, I should have used a connector like Infiniti does for easy removal.

You simply need to be smart and cleverly hide the wires so they don't become an issue.

I'm wondering... What if there was a way to also get rid of the annoying warning screen?

It really is a lot cheaper to simply install the DPDT switch. $5-$10 Vs: $350 for the exact same results. Seems like a no brainer to me!

Yes, actually I was referring to the E brake wiring mod. Not looking to spend $350 for the device. I remember there was a thread (sticky) with a PDF file with pictured instruction on how to take the center console apart and which wire to tap, etc. I hadn't follow that for a while because back than (2008) my car were new I didn't want to open on the console.

Use the SEARCH tool and when you find it, re-post the Thread Link for all to see.

Another good tool is to check out the thread in the Armada / QX56 Forum. There are great posts there and the way to perform this "under $10 mod" is the same on the EX. You definitely should also use the FSM we have posted here on NICOclub for the EX35. This way you know exactly which wires to tap into.
