Current edition (summer 2014) of "Motor Trend Classics" magazine has a nice article on a 1992 Q45 vs a 92 Jag xj6. In depth review using a 3000 original mile 1992 Q45 plucked from Nissans museum.Great pics and current thoughts about these cars.Hurry as this magazine won't be on the shelves much longer! They even gave a shout-out to Nico as one of the sites for fans of the Q !!!!!!

Now to find a bookstore... BAM and B&N are both closed up shop nearby. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on a 3000 mile museum kept Q

Is this the magazine?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/motor-trend-cla ... 2c8d44714e

I am sure that this is a totally gratuitous rag that sucks in folks that owned/loved any of the cars they highlight.
And I am being sucked in :P So I really want to see the article, and my library does not seem to have it.
Anyone else here bidding on it?

Thanks for the link cientortas! I'd still love to find a print version of this somewhere...

I think their '92 is actually a '93. Unless I'm completely wrong, the '93 was the only grille-less Q with the gold clock, and I haven't seen the black interior in a 1st gen except for '93s. Did any Q actually come from the factory with BBS wheels? I know early on, they were always dealer options, but I seem to remember that by '93 or '94 some versions came from the factory that way?

Throughout my typical monthly searching(s) of craigslist I have seen 1990-1993 with all black interior. The clock on the other hand, is usually only in the 93 and up but it is just a clock, could have been swapped out. Less likely with a "museum" worthy Q45 but possible. Could be going by production dates (late 92) which would be a 93. Unsure on the wheels

Both my G50 are the grille version--so I don't claim to be an expert on the belt buckle Q. The VIN on the museum Q would tell us for sure what year... but as for the signs: I have seen several 93 Q with the gold clock, but never a 90-92. The BBS rims on the museum car are the 15 (30) spoke basketweaves. Both my 7/93 build and 11/94 build came from the factory with those same 30 spoke rims. The BBS rims that were fitted at dealers are almost always the 10 (20) spoke basketweaves.....
I also think 7.3 sec is conservative (not that it's a stop light screamer, but....

That was an interesting article. While I've not driven that model year Jag, I wonder if the suspension was still original on that 3000 mile Q. Even though it's only got 3000 miles, it's still old so I wonder if the shocks were not quite what they should be. The jag with 175k miles probably was pretty well maintained.

The OEM replacement shocks Infiniti has provided for the last 10 years are softer than the original OEM shocks for the 90-93's - they are softer/compatible with "newer" G50 shocks. My '92 G50 shocks were replaced with OEM shocks before they got soft. My '94 got Tokico Blues, the #1 single best enhancement to overall handling, especially at higher speeds where the G50's road manners shine.

cientortas,

Thanks for sharing the link to the article :) :)

I second the thanks for the link...I drove my dad's 92' for 6 months and the 0-60 time seems slow, and saying it didn't sound like much, I would have to disagree. The 92' had a grunt that used to make me smile like the old American muscle. Very much a grunt.

@ericthered, I totally agree that Tokico Blues are an awesome improvement. I have them with cali custom springs on my car. I'm due for a new set of Blues, and i heard they don't make them anymore, so will have to look for alternatives.

Every year or so I debate whether I should sell my car…it's articles like this one that convince me to keep it :)
