i am interested to know more about your tune and what it will do for MPG and power...i also have the injen CAI and plan on doing the full megan exhaust...i just noticed that you have an M45s so your numbers will be higher than say mine when i get my tune done but it will give me something to compare ( baseline #'s v. tune #'s)

Would this decrease the reliability/lifespan of the powertrain, or maybe just the engine at least?

basically in the m45 its gonna allow more power to come from the detuned engine. for the m35's you guys can get more power out of it (jealous of you guys, you guys have more aftermarket parts i bought the only 2 they had. intake and exhaust) . but im just doing it because im so slow for a big v8. goal is to get 400-500 to the wheels later on.

no to both. But it will decrease lifespan since you will drive harder because the car becomes more fun. Also this fun will have a side effect of worse MPG.

I don't see how it would cause the engine to wear out quicker unless the OP is abusing it and neglecting the maintenance... a proper tune is going to make it run more efficiently and safely, thus increasing both reliability and lifespan. Unless of course he's going to some crackhead tuner that only cares about max hp or doesn't know what they're doing... Tuning does not make horsepower, it calibrates the ecu so that the engine is running most efficiently, which incidentally makes more hp... most of the time.

Factory tunes are not fully efficient for safety reasons, including reducing the chance of knocking and high EGT.
An NA tune will lean out the AFR closer to stoich 14.7 (at the risk of burning hotter) and advancing the ignition timing... this could potentially cause knocking and high EGT.

While a tune will make it run more efficient, a few runs under heavly load at WOT could be disaster if not tuned properly.
I was very careful when tuning my turbo IS300, it took about 3 weeks to be somewhat happy... but never completely satisfied.
