Does anyone have a poly tension rod bushing recommendation for the G50?

I started experiencing a creak on the front passenger side.

The struts, strut tower bearings, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, and related bushings are all new. My Infiniti tech buddy said I needed new tension rod bushings as the original silicon filled equipment has leaked out the silicon.

There seem to be a lot of choices for link bushings.

Any recommendations?

I did find the following.

I used the 300ZX urethane bushings (available pretty much anywhere). However, OEM ones will yield a smoother ride (available through several of our sponsors).

The 300ZX ES bushings are the way to go. That's a great price what Greg just mentioned... I'd go with that.

The creaking is probably coming from the upper links though... :(

WOW - Thanks Greg for link -- great price!

I agree on the upper links for the creaking noise. Right now it comes and goes once the car is warmed up good about once a week.

Suggestions for upper links?

OEM or Stillen Adjustable ones with Poly urethane are the only ones I know of.

Can you tell if part number 54525-66U20 is good for the 91 model upper control arm? I think that is a good number for a 94. I can't seem to get a good part number for the 91.

If you can find a set of SPL adjustable uppers that's the best bet... I have some in mine and they're still good after about 80k miles.

I don't think the uppers changed over the years, maybe just different for active cars. Either way they're not *that* different, you can tweek alignment with shims behind the brackets.

Thanks Wes - It looks like I'm going to have trouble finding SPL as those all seem to be sold out. So I'll go with the OEM uppers and poly tension rods.

If your springs are stock the adjustable upper links are not needed though.

Indeed, you're good with staying with OEM if you're not lowered. Apparently ES used to make (maybe still does) make bushings for the OEM upper links. I remember seeing them at some point but I don't remember if they're still available. Poly bushings have their pros and cons, and they're great if you don't mind greasing them from time to time, but after a while they tend to start squeaking especially when cold.

That said, I've had poly end link bushings in my Q for a long time now and I've never greased them once..

Are they red or black? Black is grease impregnated thus the reason they had to make them black.

If you use the clear "snot" they provide, that should be sufficient for a good, long time.

How much difference between OEM and poly? Is it only felt over bumps?

They don't affect your ride quality at all, they just give a sharper feel to the front suspension while turning.

When I saw smoother ride with OEM ones, I assumed that going down the highway it be smoother. There is nothing wrong with a sharper feel when turning! Also, is the 1993 240SX, 1995 300ZX and the 1994 Q45 tension rods all the same length?

I have had NISMO 300ZX polyurethane on mine for years. Not bad at all.

I ordered the Prothane bushings from CARiD in the link above. They later canceled the order and wrote back saying the Prothane bushings are out of stock. I found ES bushings in the CARiD site for a very good price below.

The ES bushings look to be a nice two piece design. Many good comments about the ease of installation on the ES site about those bushings from other Nissan owners.

Any preference on ES versus Prothane? I do like the ES bushings I've installed on the G50 and DSC4s.

So far so good on the new Tension Rod Bushings. It seems to make the steering a touch more responsive.

Pictures are below.

Just a quick note to close the thread on the final solution to the passenger side creaking noise. The noise turned out to be from passenger side rear anti-sway bar bushing. Since the bushings are new, I removed them and coated the inside (bar to bushing contact area) with Permatex Dielectric grease. The grease provides a thick silicone covering to protect rubber to metal connections from salt, dirt and corrosion.
