As promised, here is the how-to for the NAV bypass modification. It should work for all 2nd generation G35/G37's. The mod works by interrupting the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and tricking the car to think it's standing still. There's a bit more to it...but that's the basic idea.

The part is a KP Technologies NAV Bypass unit, NI35. I also did a core exchange for the NAV board that they solder for you which saved some time on the install.

Here's where to get the unit: http://www.kptechnologies.com/products. ... 37%20Sedan

Here's the write up: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/2009-g ... s-mod.html

List of all the cars this will work on:

2007-2008 G35 sedans
2008+ G37 coupes
2009+ G37 sedans

**Please do this at your own risk. If you don't follow the directions you could cause damage to the car or yourself.**

PM me if you have any questions!

Great write up - if anyone has any questions about this module or installation don't hesitate to post them up here!

I just had someone do this mod and it works great. I was wondering if it is possible to add the AV inputs like the sedan has in the console. The punch outs are blanked out where they would be installed and I assume the system is the same. Thought it would be nice to be able to hook up my ipod to these jacks to view movies that way. Is this possible?

Has anyone found a way to bypass the NAV lockout without a mechanical change? There used to be software overrides that the technicians could access through hidden buttons on the NAV screen, but that doesn't work for the newer NAV screens. I'd like to find the override that doesn't require parts or physical changes to the system. Thanks!

nope...the "hidden" menus only allow for system checks and some adjustment. The problem is that the unit uses the VSS to tell if the car is sitting still to access the grayed out areas. You can cut the VSS wire...but then your NAV won't work.

Really, it's not too hard of a job that can be done at most stereo shops. Just print out my how-to and $$ some cash. $100 for the unit and maybe $100-200 for the install.

What I don't understand is why you don't simply install a DPDT switch that would then interrupt the E-Brake wire and the VSS wire. That is what I have done on my 2010 Armada and I have done this on several Muranos and EX35s. Or you can use a DPDT relay (requires 12v power). What are your thoughts?

The module does that, but without any non-stock buttons to worry about. You just need to hold down the enter button on the NAV board and you engage the relay. When your done, hold enter again. You only need to disengage it when your using the NAV...it thinks you're standing still.

I see, cool, I usually cleverly hide the rocker switch just underneath the driver's side dash, then it is also easy removable if needed. I appreciate the info, thank you!
