Come on guys get on this!! re:information on Infiniti G35 and G37 reliability

Postby mkaresh » Fri Dec 01, 2006 11:30 am

In the fall of 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research, with the aim of reporting more detailed and more easily compared information than is currently available. Results are also updated four times a year, not just once a year, to more promptly catch any changes as the cars age.

NICO saw the value of this research, and has been very helpful. When I first posted this thread, 77 G35 owners had signed up. We're now approaching 600! Back then, we weren't yet collecting data on the G. Now we're providing results for every model year, even the 2008.

But more participants would still be helpful--especially for the coupe. The G37 is also included.

To encourage participation, anyone who helps provide the reliability data will have full access to the results free of charge.

For the details, and to sign up to participate:

Vehicle reliability research

Update: the G is also the only model with THREE sample sizes over 100. And the 2003 is at 97--that will be #4. This owner group is awesome.

I no longer own the G35 so I'm guessing I can't help much here. Let me know if you need any data for a Titan though.

Just about any vehicle can be enrolled. I start collecting data when I get 25. I'm not close yet for the Titan, but the only way I'll get there is if people sign up beforehand.

Here's the gist of it:

You'll receive emails with links to the surveys each month.

The first month you're required to respond, and then the month after the end of every quarter (January, April, July, October).

If you have had no repairs, the response is just an approximate odometer reading and verifying that two other pieces of info are still correct. Very quick.

In other months, you just respond if you had a repair the previous month. Then you fill out a longer survey, but it's still just one page:

http://www.truedelta.com/survey.php

The email will contain an encoded link to the survey, so you won't even have to log in. Just click the link and you're there.

That's it. The site has other surveys you can fill out right away, but those are voluntary and are not required to remain a member.

I also send out monthly updates to keep people informed of improvements to the site, but it's also not necessary to read these if you haven't got the tiime.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them.

Thank you, sir, may I have another (bump)?

Started collecting data on the 2005, though still a couple short of the minimum. 2004 next closest, six cars short of the minimum.

Can someone retitle the thread?

I've decided that "G35 reliability - how does it truly compare?" may work better.

Thanks.

I'm going to collect data on all but the 2006 this month. The 2004 and 2005 are each still a single car short of the minimum, though. So more cars would help.

I started collecting data on all years, even the 2006.

Current counts:
2003: 37
2004: 29
2005: 23
2006: 20
2007: 19

Total: 137

For at least 2007, and maybe all years, I'll have to separately analyze the coupe and the sedan. So please keep them coming, as I'll need especially large samples to do this.

Include a different plate number for the second. I don't need the plates right now. But you do need a way to tell the two apart. So enter some distinguishing feature in the plate: color, transmission type, sport vs. non-sport, coupe vs. sedan, etc.

I am not one bit happy with my G35 coupe. I have been having an oil consumption issue since I leased the car less than a year ago. They've already performed two oil consumption analyses (4000 miles each) and are asking me to do it again for another 4000 miles. Infiniti has pretty much accused me of lying. My last oil consumption analysis they zip tied the dip stick and told me not to open the hood of the car. My oil changes only take place at Inifiniti. I was also instructed to not add any oil to the car if it runs low on oil. I am to request that they send someone to get the car if it runs low on oil. I see a few others are having this issue however, I haven't seen a resolution as yet. Any resolutions out there????

hmmmm.... how are you supposed to know if the oil runs low if the dipstick is tied and you can't open the hood?

wait till the light comes on? that means the engine is already loosing oil pressure, right?

Thanks. I've been getting a great response from G35 owners lately.

Latest counts:

2007: 46
2006: 33
2005: 29
2004: 39
2003: 55

Total: 212

In the results posted this week, only the 2003 is included, and with an asterisk and only visible to logged-in members because of an insufficient number of responses. The stat was 0.5 repair trips per year, which is good but not great for a 2003. First-year of the car, of course.

I didn't have enough responses for the 2007 sedan to include it even in the asterisked results. That said, none of the 17 sedan owners reported a repair, so clearly the 2007 isn't trouble-prone.

The next set of results will be in August. Then I expect to have official results for the 2003 and 2007, and maybe for a few other years. It all depends on how many people sign up and participate.

The hard part with the 2007 is I have to analyze the sedan and coupe separately. It might also be necessary to do the same with other years depending on whether the reported problems are bodystyle-specific. So I might need two good samples per year. In general, most of the above cars are sedans.

If you've been helping out, thanks. If you haven't been, please consider doing so.

Caveytaz22:

Have some patience.
My 06 G35 Sedan used 1 qt per 1000 miles when new. It wasn't until i reached 21k miles that my oil consumption dropped to 2000 miles per quart
I believe it is now a little better with over 2000 miles per quart.
I change my own oil using a factory filter every 3k to 3500 miles using Penzoil or Quaker State or whatever is on sale. I think as your vehicle ages you will experience a similar result? I now have 36850 miles. Not only has the oil consumption improved as the vehicle aged so did Gas consumption.

My last oil change was on July 21st 2007 at 34514 miles. I checked my oil this morning with 36850 miles and added exactly 1/2 quart to bring the oil level to the full mark on the dip stick. This gave me 2336 miles on 1/2 qt of oil. Considering this vehicle used 1 qt per 1000 miles when new, not bad. Be aware the the L level on the dipstick is two quarts low.

Postby Ohums » Thu Oct 11, 2007 7:09 pm

I have an infiniti I30 1999. The car stalls when I accelerate and the radiator fan stays on constantly. When I took this to be diagnosed, I was told that the ECM is in a lame mode and no reading could be gotten out of it . I had the ECM rebuilt but to no avail. Pls help with any suggestion as to why my ECM is not interfacing
