A lot of people ask what the difference is between different years/models of the G35. Here is a quick listing of every year's changes to the VQ35 engine. All HP ratings are at the crank. I'm not sure on the 350z's TQ #'s...feel free to add it.

2003 - 2004

G35 Sedan 5A/T - 260hp/260 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Sedan 6M/T - 260hp/260 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)

G35 Coupe 5A/T - 280hp/270 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Coupe 6M/T - 280hp/270 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)

350Z 5A/T - 287hp (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)350Z 6M/T - 287hp (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)

2005 - Major changes include the rev-up VQ introduced on 6M/T G Coupes and Sedans as well as the Track and 35th Anniversary Versions of the Z:

G35 Sedan 5A/T - 280hp/270 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Sedan 6M/T - 298hp/260 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

G35 Coupe 5A/T - 280hp/270lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Coupe 6M/T - 298hp/260lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

350Z 5A/T - 287hp (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)350Z 6M/T - 287hp (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)350Z Track & 35th Anniversary Models - 300hp (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

2006 - The only change for '06 was the introduction of the rev-up VQ across the board for all 6M/T Zs:

G35 Sedan 5A/T - 280hp/270 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Sedan 6M/T - 298hp/260 lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

G35 Coupe 5A/T - 280hp/270lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Coupe 6M/T - 293hp/260lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

350Z 5A/T - 287hp (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)350Z 6M/T - 300hp (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

2007 - The biggest change for '07 include the introduction of the all new VQ35HR in the 2nd generation (V36) G35 Sedan and the updated '07 350Z. The motor is rated at 306hp (SAE Certified) regardless of the application or whether it's backed by a 5A/T or 6M/T. As for the G35 Coupe, hp ratings dropped by 5 for both the non Rev-Up 5A/T and the Rev-Up 6M/T as per the new SAE Certified hp rating system:

G35 Sedan 5A/T - 306/268lb-ft TQ (VQ35HR)G35 Sedan 6M/T - 306/268lb-ft TQ (VQ35HR)

G35 Coupe 5A/T - 280hp/270lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE non Rev-Up)G35 Coupe 6M/T - 293hp/260lb-ft TQ (VQ35DE Rev-Up)

350Z 5A/T - 306 (VQ35HR)350Z 6M/T - 306 (VQ35HR)

2008 - The big change for '08 was of course the introduction of the 2nd generation (V36) G Coupe now dubbed the G37 to reflect an increase in engine displacement from 3.5L to 3.7L via a longer stroke. The G37 is also the first vehicle in Nissan/Infiniti's lineup to feature the company's all new VVEL variable valve event and lift system.

G35 Sedan 5A/T - 306/268lb-ft TQ (VQ35HR)G35 Sedan 6M/T - 306/268lb-ft TQ (VQ35HR)

G37 Coupe 5A/T - 330hp/270lb-ft TQ (VQ37VHR)G37 Coupe 6M/T - 330hp/270lb-ft TQ (VQ37VHR)

350Z 5A/T - 306 (VQ35HR)350Z 6M/T - 306 (VQ35HR)

Maybe I'm wrong, but since when did the Rev-up coupes have less power than the Rev-up sedans?

Great Job Joe!!!

I think it would be worth adding the power to weight ratios too, because whilets the VQ got more power as the years went on, the cars also got heavier.

What's the deal with the coupes having less power than the sedans? I thought the sedan's had the more restrictive exhaust?

If you're referring to 2007, notice that the sedans got the new HR engine and the coupes didn't.

V35 sedans began production in 2002, a year earlier than coupes (the 02 sedans were JDM only). So, the 2007 production year brought in the new gen sedan, but the coupe still had a year left.

Are those 05-07 stats accurate with the 5HP loss over the 03-04? Is it because of the new lower plenum design?

I was refering to the '05 6MT Coupe vs. the '05 sedan. I see posts about people wanting to get coupe mid exhauset pipes. Makes me wonder why people with coupes are not swaping in sedan parts...

03-04 hp ratings are off for the 6speed sedan, too many dynos to prove they make more than 260hp. I made 233whp and 228 ft/lbs with just a pop charger and heavy coupe wheels/tires. there is about a 20% drive train loss, so do the math.

Is the 2004.5 Sedan will fall with the 05 Sedan? Thanks.

Just for the record, that is fairly inaccurate...... I know for a fact that the 05-06 all had 300hp not just the 35th anniversary in 05. (350Z).... And i am not positive, but i think the G sedan has always had less power, because it is lighter, and you can't have a sedan easily whooping up on the coupe of the same kind....

The 300 hp Z's have 260 ft. lbs.The 306 hp Z's have 268 ft. lbsThe 287 hp Z's have 274 ft. lbs.

From an article on the 2006 Z

Quote »The sole engine is a 3.5-liter V6. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, and all 350Zs so equipped have 300 hp. A 5-speed automatic is available for Enthusiast, Touring, and Grand Touring models and triggers a 287-hp rating.[/quote]As you can see, Joe is correct.

All of the 05 - 06 Z's have the rev-up plenum. Thats where the HP's come from and the lower torque. The plenum has shorter runners increasing top end HP's and lowering midrange torque for an over all 300hp and 260 ft. lbs. of torque. On the 03-04 Z you can upgrade with a plenum spacer over a rev-up lower plenum for more HP's up top without risking the torque.

I don't mean to stir things up just thought i would give my 2 cents on correcting something. you know helping to make it more accurate is all.

Joe divided the 05 and 06 Zs into MT and AT. The MT and the AT have different HP ratings. Same with the G's.
