Hi All,

I am finding some rust forming around the wheel well on the drivers side and from an earlier rust repair noticed the paint is fading out and it now looks like a big blob in the sun.

Instead of spending $2500 to fix these two tiny little spots I thought I should look into either a vinyl wrap or plasti dip. What would others here on the forum do? I'm only planning to keep the car for a few more years so I don't think $2500 is a good investment at this time (Plus I just spent $1000 on a new suspension so as little money more as possible just so it doesn't look like garbage driving around).

I think that the plastidip makes much more sense. To be sure of how it will take to the rusted parts, maybe ask [email protected]

I know everyone hates on the Plasti Dip but if done correctly (5 coats) and properly maintained then it works wonders. My buddy has had his corvette done (yes a vette) for over a year and it is just fine. Matte white with black trim!

BUT would you guys do that to your cars? I tend to agree since a good long lasting wrap could cost upwards of $2500 as well (I just looked into it). I guess the worst case I loose my $250 worth of plastidip paint.

I'm going to email fonzie. Thanks.

I would do the full plastidip. I dipped my rims (covering up curb rash), and the front bumper as well. The bumper had significant cracking in the clear coat, and I decided it made more sense to spend $12 on a few cans of plastidip than a repaint.
Since you're considering a much more expensive option in the vinyl, and plastidip is relatively cheap, I would strongly encourage you to find a dipyourcar partner (or whatever they call them) that will do the work for you.

if you have rust you need to remove the rust completely, applying anything over improperly treated rust will cause bigger issues later on. Paint or a vinyl cover will seal in the rust and it will cause more rust. It should be fixed properly that is my two cents - I have never had any luck with trying to cover up rust

Just a quick update then ill let the thread sleep. I have a friend that owns a sign shop and they do vehicle wraps. He quoted me $1400 for a pearl white full wrap. The stuff hes using is enpregnated with a strong clear finish so it will last a few years.
Another shop offers the black plastidip for $1200 including the gloss finish but only Matt black. The guy there said he would only do white on a car that's for show since white stains easier. I'm going with the wrap.

I'll get the rust area fixed first then wrap it.

Whatever place quoted you $1200 for plasti dip is insane........First of all the whole 4 gallon car kit with the spray gun is $400 shipped....it takes about 5 hours of your time to put it on and is almost "idiot proof" to do a great job. I think you are going to be disappointed with the wrap given the fact that you are having rust issues. Neither one of the products you mentioned will mask the rust problem you have. I worry about the wrap since most rust is not smooth and has a bubbling effect, how will that look when wrap is laid over it?? I don't know man, I think you're avoiding the obvious of having the rust fixed. Hell IMO you have a better option with having the rust taken care of and having them just lay the primer coat on, not painting and plasti dipping or even then wrapping over the "then fixed" rust areas. It's your car and you're going to do with it what you want but you are eventually going to have to deal with the rust at some point regardless of how long you plan to keep the car. Just my two cents....
