I have an 01 Frontier SE crew Cab 4 x 4 off road...145,000 miles on original timing belt...Would I be wise to get it changed BEFORE it gives out,and will it damage valves when it breaks?

First of all Welcome to the NICO Trucks Forum!

The Canadian dealers reccommend that the timing belt be changed at 160,000 km. (1 mile = 1.6 kilometers)

145000Mi = 232000 km!

According to the Manufacturers Specs you are way overdue for that belt to be changed.

I also called my dealer and the 3.3 is an interference fit so you will bend valves when that belt breaks. Which means the head or heads would have to be removed. Don't wait on this service. Get it done ASAP!

I took it to Nissan,and had the work done...The belt looked to be in fairly good condition..It was a little hard,and some very small cracks on a couple of teeth...They changed the Timing Belt,and water pump for $880.00...At 150,000 miles this truck runs great..I have changed the oil & filter every 3,000 miles religiously,and would by another Nissan without hesitation...

It's good to know you had the work done. You saved yourself a very big expense in doing so.

I hope what you paid is Canadian dollars?? The 3.3 will run forever if you keep up the good practice of maintenance you've shown
