My sons 95 has excessive play and rattling in the joint in the front section of the drive shaft, (arrow pointing to joint in photo) can this be replaced or do I need a whole shaft, any tips on replacement would be appreciated.

look for a driveshaft shop in your area. when i had my custom driveshaft made with 300zx slip yoke, the yoke had a little bit of a notchy feel and when i got it back it was smooth.

Thanks Swim I told my son to bring it to a very large and reputable tranny shop in the area that has a full machine shop in house,
If needed there is a used shaft on e bay I could not find that front section new or refurbished anywhere, the whole drive shaft was available new and refurbished for around 500-800, hopefully the shop can replace the U joint.

The tranny shop could not help, We just got the front section of the shaft out, the yoke is damaged not sure if the U joint can be replaced, I will take it to a drive shaft shop tomorrow.

dont take it to a transmission shop. they suck at times in my opinion. find an actual driveshaft shop. the shop i took mine to here in GA, that is all they do is fix driveshafts for cars and trucks. i had a whole driveshaft custom made for $150, so trans shop is bs'ing you. trans shop wanted $3200 to fix my auto trans and tech told me it would be impossible to 5 spd swap my J30. brought my J30 back 3 weeks later to him saying that the auto light kept on flashing on my dash and i didnt know why (i knew but was being devious). the look on his face when he saw a stick shift in it was priceless.

I brought the front section to the only drive shaft shop in Orlando FL, they told me it was not repairable the yoke that plugs into the transmission was not available. One option he gave me was a new one for $500.00 , We may go to the junk yard they have a 96 and a 97 do you know if all of the shafts are the same his is a 95 T.

Back to life  we found a 96 with only 76,000 miles on it in the Daytona beach U pull it and some one already took the exhaust system out so getting the drive shaft out was a piece of cake.
