free mod advice - learn how to drive fast and be in control at all times SHIFT_driver

there's shops that'll take a car in if they want to develop something, you give them the car for however long it takes them and then get it back modded. since you have the vq30 motor you're screwed there - unless you come up with something worth while.

GAB is pretty free. If you subtract the cost of a coathanger =) plus dynoproven results that outdo most aftermarket CAIs and WAIs lol. Closest to free after that would be timing advance.

Could always rewire the fogs so you can operate them independently from the headlights... simple job - you can find it in the how-to section.

If you own a Cummins 12 valve engine I'll tell you a few mods that are virtually free. . . I don't know of any for Maxima's though .

Part of the reason there are "free" mods for the LS1 is that it's very tunable. It's a relatively simple motor that has a lot of untapped potential out of the box, so minor tweaks can make a big difference. The VQ is probably as far to the other side of the spectrum from the LS1 as you can get. It's highly electronic and hard to tune. And even if you have the knowledge and tools to tweak the factory settings you won't get much out of it for free.

When your talking about the free mods on the LS1 or LT1s people mean things like descreening the MAF sensor or doing a throttle body coolant bypass...those mods have produced anywhere from 3-10RWP increases when tested after they were done...not much but they are free mods and take about 5-15 minutes to do each one.

You can certainly build a VQ motor...the guys at NWP have one that runs high 12s all motor...of course an LS1 will do that with a few boltons, but you start off with a lot more if you have an LS1 or LT1...and there is no replacement for displacement when it comes to making big power #s on a NA engine.

Definitely.Just to clarify, I wasn't saying you can't make power with the VQ. I was just saying you can't make as much more power than stock for free as you can with a small block.
