So today my low tire light came on.. again.. for the third time.. The last 2 times this has happened it was because there was a leak in the tpms sensor, and they've had to replace the entire assembly which is right around $150. If this is another tpms sensor I'm gonna be ripped. I have owned this car less than a year and have already put in $600 in repairs none of which were my fault. Starting to think I should've kept my old beater instead of buying a relatively new car.. Would've cost way less even though it needed a new tran. That sorta turned into a rant about how much i am disliking my V right now. Anyways, I got the tpms components replaced when i switched the summer and winter tires and then replaced again when i switched back in the spring. I do live in an area with bumpy roads, but nothing that I would think could cause this much damage to my tpms sensors? Has anybody else had 3 sensors go on their car? Im getting this checked tomorrow, and im hoping I just have a nail in their somewhere :ohno: And before anyone asks, yes the bumper to bumper warranty is expired, so its not covered. the first one was, but the last one I had to pay for myself. Last time the dealership charged me $45 to reset the warning light..

Either there is a manufacturing/install issue - or whoever is taking care of your tire pressure is a thug and jerking your valve stems.

If it happening when someone is changing them, I think it is them damaging the stems. They only take 8Nm to tighten and going beyond them will crack or break them off. I've seen it plenty of times. I have swapped them from OEM to aluminum wheels without problems.

Aftermarket wheels, no TPMS and take the light out of the warning. If you must have the TPMS functional for inspection save the wheels and bulb. These whiz bang gizmos solve non-existent problems while introducing real new problems.

FWIW, we' gone through several tire changes with our three Versa's and an average of over 90k miles each, and never had a TPMS sensor go bad. We're not changing tires twice a year as you do in Maine, but each Versa's had the tires replaced at least once, without problems.

Maybe my local shop just does shoddy work. I just switched to my winter tires this week and I haven't had a problem yet. Instead of going to the shop where I would be charged $80-$100 I had the changeover done by the automotive program at the local high school. Looks like everything fine for now. I wouldn't trust them to do anything more difficult than this though..

Yikes. That reminds of a freind who let the cosmotology students cut his hair. He got what he paid for. I hope the auto shop kids did better work than those chicks did on my buddy's quaff.

hahaha, they did a good job with the tires. Just gotta make sure you watch them or you'll end up with something going wrong. I do a lot of work myself, but Its rather hard to do tires..

I remember using a Chevy bumper jack on the pickup to break the beads and spooning tires on and off then bubble-balancing them. It was significantly less than amusing.

I had a fun experience with TPMS today. I took the cap off my tire to check my tire pressure today, as I do every month, and I dropped the cap between my hubcap and the wheel. I remember the salesman when I bought the car, he got down on his knee and said, "These caps have sensors in them for the TPMS. If you lose one, that's a $120 replacement from any Nissan dealer." So, I had to drive up and down my driveway until it came out and my dad put it back on. Turns out, it's just a plastic cap because my Versa doesn't even have TPMS. Sorry if this is irrelevant, I just felt it was appropriate to share this story haha

I dont think that any car has caps that are part of the tpms system. mine also has plastic caps. the sensor is actually inside the wheel.
