Hello,

I'm currently talking to R-international regarding a '89 GTR to eventually build up into a grip car (road racing, HPDEs, some AutoX). I told Mr. Hara that I absolutely need the drive system to be in really good to great condition. I know NIssan isn't own for having solid first year cars so I'm concerned with the ATTESA on such an old car.

From what I know, the '89 GTR comes with the ATTESA-ETS. Is that generally a solid system or should I expect repairs/rebuilds? I know that a lot depends on what the previous owner(s) did. I'm just asking to try to get a heads up of some commonly know problems.

I never heard of any complaints about it. Check the hydraulics for leaks and you should be fine.

^^
You think I should get someone to open up the trans, LSDs to check the synchros/gears?

Moreover, I heard the the ATTESA-ETS is slower the the ATTESA-ETS PRO. Is that accurate or just internet rumors?

Unless it's shifting weird or making noise, No.

If it is I doubt you would notice any difference. ANY.

Just enjoy your car man.

I'm don't doubt that I'll enjoy the car but I plan on tracking the car like 80% of the time. I'm trying to ensure that the old car lasts.

when something breaks fix it. If you blow the front diff just unplug the 4WD fuse and go RWD.

I was surprised when I discovered that the GTR is 4WD as opposed to AWD. I remember seeing GTRs drifting and I was wondering how the hell did they disabled the AWD system, lol.

Only works on R32s. R33s would have to have the front driveshaft removed. The GT-R is AWD. It has a true center diff unlike a truck.

Looks like this makes it possible:

Theres so much I gotta learn about this platform. All the after market support reminds me of the vast goodies Civics and 240sx have to play with.

I have known Hara for about 12 years now. We worked with him a lot over the years. Just saw him about a month ago here in the US.

There is nothing in particular to be worried about. Its hard to really know that its slipping, unless you test it or disassemble it.

If it is slipping a bit, there are some tricks to get it to lock up harder.
