Yeah I have done some aftermarket exhaust exploration... Ive got a 1999 QX4 and i left the stock intake pipes on and kept the cats.. for now, and i also took off all of the extra heat housing stuff that they put on the pipes. They put some insulation around the stock pipes to prevent it from heating up the floor or your vehicle. It doesnt make a difference with them on or off. i cant tell anything. But anyways i just left the stock intake pipes on there i think they are like 1.5 inches or something like that. Possibly 2 inch. but i have a flowmaster 40 original and no piping after the muffler. seeing as it it a dual intake you will either need to get a dual intake or get a single intake and just use a Y pipe to join them together before going into the muffler. I used a Y pipe. It sounds so much better than stock. If youre looking to turn heads then this will do a pretty good job. Im going to change the stock intake pipes to 3 inch pipes soon and hopefully it will sound even better. But as far as gas mileage i have barely noticed a difference. Probably because im show boating a bit more but if i drove like a normal human being then there would most likely be a little bit more difference. But i do suggest a flowmaster 40 original series.I have a single input flowmaster that im trying to sell if youre interested. Or i also have some glasspacks whichi dont recomend for a V6 they sound like garbage on v6 haha but i do have another flow master 40 if youre interested. and if you want i can send you the link to a video of what it sounds like...

Pretty sure I was looking at a Pathfinder ad on craigslist that said "Hole in the floor due to exhaust leak at that spot".. The owner suggested using a heavy rubber mat and to keep windows open to avoid fumes..

Right but if you have no exhaust leak then there would be no problem and seeing as he would be getting a new exhaust system then there would be no leaks therefore no problems

and if you did have a leak with the housing then it would just catch up in flames creating an even bigger problem, because the heat sheild housing is made from a synthetic fiberglass and cotton blend it would catch very easily and spread rapidly. which would mess up the entire underside of the car

i have an 02 pathfinder and just had the exhaust done this past weekend. it is generally the same setup as you should have on yours with the dual inlet muffler and single outlet stock. i ended up buying 2 adapters from carquest to adapt the 1-3/4 OD stock pipes to 2". then installed a "y" that was 2" inlets/outlet. for the muffler i used a flowtech afterburner with 2" inlet/outlet and then just connected it to the stock pipe from the muffler back. also removed the resonator before the tip which i dont think made any difference whatsoever. the sound i got is a very low almost non-existant tone at idle, a low tone on acceleration, and no drone while cruising on the highway. the flowtech afterburner muffler is a fully welded chambered muffler that was rather cheap on ebay.. here is the auction that i bought.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/270828345589?ss ... 1439.l2649
all the research i did on the muffler showed alot of the v8 guys like to use it which means it flows well! i am a week into it and i have considered going back under the truck and taking out the resonators ahead of the muffler in the 1-3/4 pipe. i am nervous that it will be too loud for me at that point and i wont be able to remedy it. but for now, i think it sounds pretty good! here's a vid..

It sounds great man! If you want it louder then definitely take off the resonators before the muffler. Mine did not have any resognators before the muffler I actually haven't even heard of that before... But if you want it louder then for sure take those off! But if you like it how it is then yeah it sounds good! I'm actually going for even louder than what I have now so I'm gonna do dual two inch maybe three inch pipes straight out with two x pipes so it doesn't rattle.. But I love what I have now. It is pretty loud inside the cab as well as outside! I get plenty of people turning their heads!!

If you want a deeper or andifferent tone the only thing you can do is change the muffler.. Each muffler brand has a different sound to it. You just have to find why you like best!

My 01 has a Flowmaster 40 in it that I recently swapped. Like mentioned above, every muffler is going to sound different but most setups will be similar. You'll have to bring the two inlets together through a Y piping. My setup in terms of specs is pretty close to what the other members have so I won't go into detail much of what I have, unless you're curious I can definitely fill you in.
