Hello, im new to everything, starting from forums. Im looking at buying a 240z and wanted to do an engine swap, would love to put a RB26dett in it but would like to make it RWD. what do you guys think, what are your opinions? starting form the car, is this car well built, what should i do to it, or should i go to the 280z? And about the engine, what should i do to it, also looked at the 2jz. Bottom line is want to spend small amount of money but have a cool car. Im satisfied with 350Hp or something like that, not going for insane amounts of power. :gotme

Thanks,
Diego

Welcome to NICO Diego.
The Zs are all rear wheel drive from the factory, so you don't have to change any of that.
An RB26 swap is certainly possible, but I wouldn't say it can be done cheaply. You'll have to know what you're doing both mechanically and electrically. You'll have to get an ECU system and wiring harness set up. www.wiringspecialties.com is where you want to go for wiring.

You can make 350 whp from the L28ET for half the cost of the RB. If you want a cool car without a lot of cash, leave it stock, these cars are appreciating in value, a swap will only cost you money and not improve value, these cars are cool and desirable in stock form. 280Z's are cheaper and less desirable than 240Z's.

Rb20,25, and 26 are very easy to wire up. The hardest part is getting the car ready to handle that much power. Not to mention RB parts are not easy to get your hands on.

Evildky, I'm going to buy the car and export it to another country where parts are not going to be available, so id have to rebuild the engine then export it, but i don't have time, i have a window of about a month to get the car put an engine and ship it. When i get it back ill do the body work, and anything else it needs. I looked into doing a swap because i could get a decent engine that needed little to no work, and make a quick swap and ship. What do you think? I'm i doing it all wrong, should i just stick to original rebuild and keep it like that?

Quick swap eh? How many swaps have you done? If you have a lot of RB swap experience I'm sure you'll be fine. If you are against the clock now is not the time to learn new things.

Hahahaha, I'm starting to look at myself, you're right evildky, I've never done a swap. Think the best thing to do is stick to the original L engine, and rebuild it. You said i could get 300hp out of it, how so? First question actually, how much do you think ill spend on a complete engine rebuild? What would i need to do to get the most out of my engine? Finally I'm already looking for a car, if you know someone that has one and wants to sell it, or something like that, would love for you to give them my email or something, i intend to acquire the car in december, but if an opportunity arrises id be the last to turn it down. Thanks

You don't even have the car and you are contemplating a swap or a rebuild, maybe just buy a car that doesn't need either?

I was thinking about spending like 4k in a car and 3k in engine, do you think i can get a good running car for under lets say 9 or 10k?

9-10K buys a pretty well set up Z car. Maybe not for too much longer though.
