I just installed a ($35 shipped, Ebay Brand) Engine damper and all I can say is WOW..

G35 engine torque damper - inexpensive

G35 engine torque damper - brand name part

The throttle feels "Crisp" and the car is much more rigid. The soggy stock throttle feel is gone. It's an amazing upgrade!

There is slightly more vibration in the car but nothing too bad. Also you can feel the engine in the pedal more.

The only thing that worries me is the mounting point on the timing cover... Since it's aluminum I fear that it might strip the threads on the bolt or crack over time.

Anyway... if you don't have one go get one now!!

Install took about an hour and was rather simple if you have the proper tools.

I say the proper upgrade list for the G35 would be this..

Engine Damper > Intake Spacer > Z-Tube > Exhaust > Suspension > Wider Wheels (9.5" or wider) > FI

I have a 6mt.. 5AT is for women..

It has been reported that the stillin and the ebay engine dampers are made in the same factory and thus are 100% the same.

UPDATE:

This is the #1 must have upgrade for the G35! 6MT Guys NEED this upgrade! It should also help with you 5AT Women.

The difference is amazing, shifting is improved 100% and the car feels less "Soggy" when shifting.

Throttle response is instant in every gear.

I have always felt my SR20DET 240SX was faster then my G35 (or atleast felt that way) well I think it must be due to the fact that I have solid mounts on the 240SX because now I feel the same "crisp" kick in you pants responce in the G35.

Now you're not actually adding any HP with this upgrade but rather affecting how well the HP you have is used.

I can see this easily taking a few tenths off you the 1/4th time.

it should also make a big difference in lap times at the track.

Was reading that guy's feedback - About 3 pages in, there's a buyer who got a complete S14 catback for $80, and whines / posts neg feedback because it wasn't packaged well.

Cripes, the piping I use for ours costs more than $80, and we buy it by the railroad car load!!!

Sounds like a sales pitch. Has anyone else tried this? Sounds good, but I would love a DIY

Edit: Here's Stillen's installation (a bit above my level)http://www.stillen.com/product...t.pdf

It doesn't affect how the horsepower is used, but the torque. The torque lost from the engine moving in the bay is reduced...what you're feeling is that lost torque.

Sounds like its worth tryin out

Anybody else put one on yet?

Will it put unnecessary wear on any other parts in the engine bay?

Honestly...

The 3rd gen 5at sedans are awesome (despite the throttle lag).

The 1st and 2nd gen 5at coupes

I think I drove 2 of them at different dealerships and was very unimpressed. I almost bought a WRX because of the 5ATs.

Kenrik,

How long did it take to get to you?

I just saw an 03 6mt with low mileage in my area, asking 17500....

I should've just been patient, that goes for anyone else who is currently in the market for one, DON'T RUSH IT!!!

Depending on what you plan on doing with your car. I'd go for the 05+. Knowing that I have a VLSD (no checking dash colors, wheels, or VINs) because all 05 6MTs came with it was calming.

here's a thread with similar info and commentshttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=298564

and here's a couple pics of mine so people can have an idea of what is being talked about....since "someone" hasn't posted pics yet :P

here's stillen (same as ebay) bolts to block

and here's weaponR, bolts to plenum

both are good add ons, and improve throttle response while saving potentially lost torque.

not yet, been waiting on an increase in power (FI) where I'd actually need to dyno tune. The Unichip system I have is a piggyback that is tuned for most of my current mods, but I would like to dyno tune just for S's and G's, especially if I get the COBB system...then I'll definitely dyno tune and get some #'s.

I got the stillen torque damper. I felt pretty much the same way. Later I installed the stillen master cylinder brace and the braking exerience was completely turned around. Next I was thinking solid motor mounts and a upgraded tranny mount. But thats just me.

It seems like the damping rate is adjustable. Can someone comment on this?
