Car: 1990 nissan hardbody 4x4.Pathfinder 6 bolt 16 inch wheels manual 98,000miles replaced many things.Check out my face book got some pics there

I have a 1990 4x4 hardbody the guy i bought it from put 6 bolt pathfinder front rotors and rear brake drums on it.The Emergency brakes barely engauge i put new d21 brake shoes on the back all the mechanics of the rear brakes work could it be pathfinder rear shoes are thicker that the d21`s or could i need new emergency brake cable.

I think that cable might be adjustable, too.

Before adjusting cable put the truck up on jack stands and roll the back tire, then adjust the rear brakes so they are just starting to touch the drum and causing just a bit of drag. Many guys roll the adjusters down to get the drums on and never readjust them to be right on the drum. The adjuster is in the slot on back of the axle cover a small slit. You have to adjust the pads out with the drum on so it is right on the drum. Then pull emergency brake, if it is still not grabbing enough adjust the cable.

Well that's certainly better than driving down the street backwards repeatedly braking.

Thanks rt22 ill try to ajust the drum brakes,ill see if that works ill let you know .

Good luck , when I did mine, until I got them adjusted, the pedal went way down and emergency brake was useless.
