Hey, whaddaya know? Another freakin code... p1400. This one was probably all my fault. I was cleaning some crud and so my idiot A$$ shoots carb cleaner into the hose connecting the Back Pressure Control valve and the EGRC solenoid... Not a good idea, right? So it looks like I'll be taking the plenum off for a FIFTH time!! :slap:
Anyway, what I was wondering is that is there any mechanical/electrical difference between a VQ30DE EGR solenoid and a VH41DE solenoid? they look the same, have three hose ports in the same layout and the two pin electrical connector look the same, but have different part numbers, and there is a substantial difference in price. (the latter being a lot more expensive).

All I can offer is that if they are different part numbers there is a good chance it may not work. This is true 95% of the time though.

Did you double check the connections to it? Also do you mean P0400? I would look at the wiring diagram in the service manual to compare both EGR solenoids.

I only had a code p1400, not a p0400, although they are very similar...
The electrical connection is the only thing I'm worried about... but even if the plug doesn't fit, couldn't I just grind the plastic edges down and tape the connectors together? Mechanically it should function the same, shouldn't it? I looked up the part number on the O'reillys website, and it says there's an aftermarket one that interchanges with both part numbers...

I'm getting ready to start this project... can anyone else chime in on this? The only other thing I thought might be different is the triggering voltage from the ECU... does anyone know if they are different on a Maxima vs. Y33?

you stated "solenoid" in your first post, but the 3 hose connx (one on the bottom, and two at a 90° angle on top?) sounds like the EGR BPT (back pressure transducer) is the bpt for the vh41de no longer avail? i replaced one once on one of the vh45de's and memory says they look the same. you can test the BPT you know?

edit:ah slap me silly-just re-read the post and you mention the elec connct. ok, yes you got the solenoid which connx to the BPT. i don't know conclusively. but i'd be surprised if you can't source a new one from IoS. the principle of the solenoids is the same, but the connx might be different across the different platforms.

Well, yes... IoS does have the part... however, it's all about paying 1/4 of the price for the one from a Maxima, which potentially could do the same thing as the more expensive factory replacement. So I'm gonna roll the dice... and see if it works.
