2003 G35 6sp MT w/ Brembo

I need to replace my ECM because it keeps shorting out the O2 sensor in bank 1 (per my mechanic).

I've read numerous things online and would just like to get some confirmation before I buy another ECM.

1) Does it need to be from the same year or can I get any (6sp MT) from 2003-2004?
2) Will the 350Z ECM work on my car?
3) I've read that what matters the most when I get another ECM is that the two big bold aplha/numerica digit (e.g. R2, AZ, JN, etc) matches. Is this correct?
4) How can I tell if a ECM came off of a M/T or A/T? Just to be safe so that I don't get tricked into just buying a ECM.
5) Anything else I should know or be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try checking with an Infiniti parts department?

They should be able to give you the part number if you give them your VIN number

There's a lot more to cars than the engine these days. Matching the letters would get your engine going but maybe not other systems in your car. The letters would be different for MT than Auto, so your safe there, but... Some cars have like 10 separate computers, some combine a few into one. So, maybe the ABS system is different, or the Infotainment, or even the airbags and SRS stuff. You want your ecu to match your car. Telcoman has a good idea, get a part number and look for those computers. Some places test ECU's and some can even repair them. Perhaps your voltage regulator for the 5v system is messed, or just a bad pin.

You appear to be putting a lot of faith in "per my mechanic"

If you and he have not followed the troubleshooting steps in the FSM how do you know for sure exactly where the problem is?

Get a second opinion preferably from an Infiniti trained technician that has the proper tools for a proper diagnosis before guessing and just replacing parts.
How do you know that the problem is not in the wiring harness or its many connectors that is the cause of the short?
Was your vehicle ever involved in a flood?

Shorting out of the O2 sensor might be part of the harness broken and making contact with a metal, not necessarily the ECU.
