I did a little research and on the Dynamat website I found a Honda Element (closest car size/type to a Cube) install page. Info: $520 with 11 hours of work for a novice. So Im taking that as just parts expense. Expert time is 8 hours. How much would labor add on to the cost?

My main concern is how hard is it to pop all the side panels and take out the seats and carpet? Where can I find a reliable company that can do this and would it be practical to put Dynamat in a Cube? Thanks a lot and any help is gladly appreciated!

What is your goal kromcube ?

It pay's to do this yourself rather than pay 50-60 bucks a hour to put on.may want to look at brown bread,or my favorite cheap deal, viseolastic. My car is incased in viseolastic and something else.i forgot, crap!Ah,high temp mastic and alot of rubatex top to bottom..both super cheap compared to the same thing with silkscreening.Know what i mean.mcmaster-carr has it.I cant understand thier system anymore so you would have to do that yourself.i think it would pay to get a manuel to take the stuff out.ussaully not hard at all.just use a tender touch and buy a couple pick's if need be.Interior tool.they use at car shops..My car was quiter than any iasca car id been in.Most people dont have 1.5 inch's thick of rubatex lining thier doors. The insulation factor is unreal.Good luck on your project.

Dynamat is always a good choice for sound blocking, taking off the door panels is not to bad, if you wanna dynamat your floor panels you may come across a little surprise there are this huge squares made of white foam styrofoam or whatver their name is you will have to remove this ones or whoever the shop is doing it , the back floor panels i havnt seen it.if i would done some dynamat i will do the front floor panels thats for sure and the front doors also. but thats it if you do too much your cube will gain a few lbs. and automatically dicrease the gas mileage

i dynamat my dodge neon trunk a long time ago and just the sheet for the trunk itself was pretty heavy

let us know if you do some dynamat i will like to take a look at it

Well my goal is to deaden some road noise and thats about it. I think Im just gunna have a shop do it for me (expensive, I know). If I can get pics I will try. I think the front doors and floor would be the most beneficial (cost wise and sound wise). Ill keep you updated, but dont expect anything anytime soon (low on the cash money). Thanks for the advice!

heck, for just road noise brown bread is cool and cheap.Really easy to put on.No heat gun and rollers and stuff.Want even cheaper. On my 200sx i just wanted to make a quiter ride,so i went down to homedepot and got me some pipe wrap.It has a foil back and and sticky rubatex like rubber on the other, very mild sticky though.really dont stick persay..Comes in a roll about a foot long or so.I lined it and it worked great and comes out easily. On my j30 i put it over 3 layers of viseolastic, its held in place by the door panel basically.Well, have fun there.By the way,at first i was really paranoid you might say cause i was afraid id break something taking it out.But once you understand how things attach the feeling wain's and i went in like i was in a pitstop.its nice to do roof too.I cant even hear rain hit my car at all.Just the glass. One thing i should mention,Ive had dynamat put on by a shop, one time. They had air bubbles everywhere and not rolled out poroperly.Had to redo myself.Thier on the clock.Ive seen a couple just like it too.Not done well.Shops like cartoys and such.Just a thought.Keep your eye's out of you watch it be done.

I just got XM installed on my Cube today by Best Buy and found out that they install Dynamat. The installer told me the best thing to do is just the four doors. It'll cost around $300 dollars (for parts and labor) which its much cheaper than an audio shop. Does anyone know how much of a difference all four doors Dynamatted would make?

I would think the firewall and the roof would have a considerable amount of noise also.

I wouldn't mind the firewall, but the roof seems like a waste to me... unless you don't want to hear rain hitting your car. I think I'm going to start with the doors and if I like that, then maybe the firewall.

I ordered a sound dampener similar to Dynamat (but costs less and is very popular among car audio enthusiasts). I'll be installing it on my Cube in 2 weeks or so.

I prefer RAAM mat. Cheaper, and it was superior in a sound-deadening "shootout" I was reading.

I got it online, and I've done 3 cars with it.

I bought Damplifier from Second Skin Audio (based in AZ).

Schtebie, where are you planning on installing it?

AZ, what are the best places to put this stuff? Do you think all four doors on the Cube would help or is it worth it because the aerodynamics are bad in the first place. (i.e. windshield, mirrors)

Dynamat is getting installed possibly tomorrow, or the end of this week. Im getting all doors including the back door. Probably can't get pics but Best Buy Geeksquad said at most will be $375 in about 2 hours. Ill do a small write up when its done. Its my Christmas present so it better be damn good!

A couple of years ago, I put Dynamat Xtreme in my Escort ZX2, and it made a huge difference. I did everything but the roof, since I didn't want to remove the headliner. I bought it from eBay over a period of weeks and did the work over several days. Yes, it's fairly heavy, but I never noticed a difference in the mpg.

When I put the DRL and LED in my Cube, I bought a set of nylon tools to remove trim, and they made the job much easier - no scratching, and they work better than screwdrivwers, etc.

I plan to put the Dynamat throughout the Cube - except for the roof. I'll wait till the spring. It's not something you want to do when the temp is below freezing.

The Nissan shop manual on CD is good for getting removal directions. I don't like paying inflated labor costs to anyone.

I agree on the labor costs, but I've never done anything like it before and if something doesn't fit back right or the speakers don't work I trust Best Buy in fixing the problem. If I like the doors, I will save up enough to do the floor and firewall. I'm taking it over tomorrow.

The Dynamat is finally finished. I took it to Best Buy and it was a clean install. I recommend that you make an appointment because I didn't and it took five hours (no lie)! I bought two door kits and a four sq. ft. kit and there was little left over, which is good. They charge $30 install for each kit. The total was around $350. Not too bad. Make sure they take out your speakers and put that cutout behind the speaker itself.

The doors sound and feel much more solid and the road/wind noise is greatly reduced. The Dynamat added about 15-20 lbs., making the car feel a little more planted (good IMO), but worsened brake feel (kind of like pressing down on a nerf football). The windshield and mirrors are a bit more noticable (wind noise wise), but theres nothing much you can do about it.

Driving around 55-60 mph w/o the Dynamat, I would have to talk louder and have my music up louder, making it uncomfotable for back seat passengers. Im hard of hearing so thats also part of my problem. But with Dynamat, its a whole other ball game. On smooth roads, I could hear the music clearly and talk in a normal voice. Vibrations were down and the bass sounded so much cleaner and deeper. I am now looking at buying some hoodliner at $106 shipped (Crutchfield) and putting that on myself. The hood is around 8 sq. ft. and the hood kit is 12 sq. ft. Maybe I could slip the extra into a sub enclosure.

Well, I think I covered everything. I would highly recommend Dynamat. If you have any questions, ask away!

Here's the fat mat install I did right before Christmas. Sorry I was late on seeing this... Cube life is my usual home, but I'm looking for offset threads, and ran across this thread so I thouhgt I'd post my experience with DIY.

I've been considering having Dynamat installed as well. I've never had it done before. How much noise emanates from the side windows and windshield once the Dynamat is installed? I think if I did it I'd want all four doors done. How about the rear door? Mine has the Rockfor Fosgate subwoofer there.

Well the windshield is going to pick up alot of noise because it hardly has an angle and has alot of surface area. And you'll hear wind from the mirrors too. As of right now, I dont think there are any other mirrors you can buy. But its a smart thing to do. The only thing inbetween the door panel and door is a thin piece of plastic, which your installers (or you) should take out.

The car sounds much more inclosed audio wise, I also have the RF sub in the back. Shop around to different places and see who gives you the best price. Make an appointment! Don't trust them when they say you can walk in. I learned that the hard way. My install was around $350 at Best Buy (and 5 hours long!) They don't charge hourly. Theres also other products like Damplifier and RAAM Mat you can check out too. Also, make sure the installer pulls out each door speaker and puts the circular cutout of the material behind it, that will help alot. Hope this helps and tell us how it goes!
