My driver side mirror used to be a brownish gold color and now it is Brown fluid at the bottom and normal up top (top 1/4 inch of mirror). I see there is some sort of fluid in there but can't understand why it looks like it's been leaking out. There are no signs of it leaking at all. I had this door replaced when some little 16 yr old texting while driving ripped it off while I was getting outta my car last summer. I wonder if they forgot to hook a wire back up or if the stuff is evaporating or something. Any advice?

Your description of the leak(?), discoloration(?), is a little fuzzy. Can you post a picture.....or email it to me and I'll post it for you?

Is there a turn signal built into the side view mirror assembly or are we talking about the coating on the back of the mirror changing colors?

We could have our first documented case of leaking blinker fluid. I think Qship96 has the fix.

I guess that technically falls under the word "any"

Do the outside mirrors on the '02 Q45 dim when hit with light from a car from behind, like the inside auto dimming mirror? I don't see any mention of this in the FSM or owner's manual - but the FSM does show a "door mirror sensor" which begs the question... "sense what?"

If I had to guess, I'd say the mirror has a membrane with some sort of liquid that changes color when it's energized... and that has been damaged. Definitely post a picture...

I know this is years late but, are there any updates on this? My passenger side mirror stays with a blue tint and does not dim. could it be just a fuse or the mirror sensor causing this? the other two dim really well when bright lights are behind me.

Also, in my last car (2001 Acura CL type-s) i saw this odd colored fluid in the rear view mirror. It was an auto dimming mirror as well but I never saw it work since purchase. I only noticed the fluid once and that was on a very cold day. It was settled at the bottom of the mirror and when it warmed up outside the fluid went away. I'm pretty sure this means the mirror will not be dimming anymore and it's time for a replacement, or to just put up with a regular not dimming mirror.

ImageThis is what the OP was referring to. The drivers side only mirror has a film that allows it to dim like the rearview mirror does. On these older cars they are very susceptible to this film deteriorating and showing the mirror to be a dark color. Since Infiniti doesn't make them anymore, you can only choose from used ones online. I just purchased one and am getting ready to install it soon.

That's a common issue in the BMW community and can be repaired. Do a Google search for "BMW dimming mirror repair".

The new mirror was $40 so less to deal with.
