2001 I-30 / 69K

Just had a shop replace my rotors and brake pads with brenbo rotors and ProAct pads...now there is a clicking noise in the front passenger side. The shop I had do the brake work checked everything and they said it's a drive axle joint/bearing that is bad. I called Infiniti and it is covered under warrenty, but the Service Rep said was really strange. Could putting the brembos rotors caused this...has anyone else had this happen? The OEM part cost around 600 dollars ouch!!

I was not complainign about the cost...I was asking if the stealership might give me a hard way to go with the brembos and the drive axle bearings. Anyone else heard of this happening?

I would jack up the front end, and see if you could isolate the noise to a more specific area. If it is something caused by adding aftermarket parts, then that will void the factory warranty.

I had the same import shop check out the noise from the front right tire...thinking it was something from the brake job. They checked it out and said it was the axle bearing. I am taking over to the dealship Friday AM to have them check it out.

I was there when they jacked it up...and everything look and sounded good with the brakes. The Service Tech took it for a drive and the same noise again. It seems to be really noticable at slow speeds and when I brake.

In that case, I would take your receipt from the brake job with you to prove that you just had the work done, and that the brakes could not have caused the bearing to go bad in however many days.

Sounds good....I just checked the date it was manufactured 5/01 which means it's not covered under warrenty.

That blows. I would tend to think that if your CV boots are not torn/damaged, that the axle bearings are just fine, depending on age/mileage.

I know you should be able to get a re manufactured axle from between $60-$90 depending on if has ABS, what kind of trans, etc. But it's unfortunate that it's the passenger side due to the axle bracket on the rear side of the motor. You will need an impact wrench to get the job done (due to the axle nut); but other than that it is a DIY job, for someone with mechanical aptitude.

Here is the FSM section on the axles. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/i30/2001/ax.pdf

Dropped it off to Infiniti and they are saying if it is the axle bearing it would be covered under warrenty. Thanks for the help and keep your fingers crossed!!

Update....Friday afternoon got a call from Infiniti dealership and turns out it's a wheel bearing and it's not covered under warrenty even though the powertrain covers axles and bearings. It was 600 for the wheel bearing and a new hub. I am not paying 600 for a bearing so I picked it up and called another shop to see what they would charge....350. As I was heading down the road I expected to hear that dare noise when I stopped, but nothing. I am thinking wtf is going on here?? I dropped it off to the other shop and they could not find anything wrong with the bearings, it just needed the tires balanced. I am thinking the first place were I had the brakes replaced maybe didn't the brake caliper on right. I would bet Infiniti had to take the brakes off to check out the wheel hub, so in putting it all back together hopefully fixed the problem.
